hassled... to the point that i'm flying less and driving more.
when they took away mrs. duxfan's needle and thread, yet continued to let her wear the pin on her sweater, i realized that the inmates are firmly in control of tha asylum.
remember, those who trade freedom for security will wind up with neither!

Hassled to the point of being barely civil to the security people even though it is not their fault.
An example: Pre Richard Reid at DTW I was a selectee - after all of the groping the guy grabbed my ankle and pulled it back and up so he could look at the bottom of my shoes. I firmly put my foot down (literally) and told him I was not some horse he is shoeing. If he wants to look at my shoes - I will take them off and he can examine to his hearts content. He was slightly put out but decided my shoes weren't suspicious after all. I was so furious and may have made more of a stand but needed to get on that flight - which is how they win!
22 segments in January any ideas how I can get some Valium?

Definite vote for HASSLED.
Regarding reporters, I have had a conversation regarding this subject with one of them, and he was unconvinced. Certainly the great unwashed sheeple feel safer, and that's all the politicians care about. Very depressing if you have to fly a lot.
And the security morons really are abusive -- I don't care what anyone else says about it!

Good idea about contacting travel reporters. If everyone that reads this sends an email to this group, then it might have some results. I found some email addresses for travel reporters.

No one really seemed to notice this at the time, but go and look at what the administration, the FAA, and the airlines were saying back in September.
It wasn't "we need to make flying safe again".
It was "we need to make the flying public feel safe again".
And, sure enough, many of the actions taken since have done more for the latter than the former.

Certainly the security is different than prior to September 11. And there is plenty of over-reaction apparent, which can rightly be called "hassle". But I do think it is in the interest of all of us to allow time for the new system to emerge. In a trip to and from Germany last week, I did not find the security particularly "hassling" , and I did think our domestic security is somewhat approaching the professional - and efficient- thoroughness of some European security.
I think we can help an effective system emerge by expecting a level of professional competence in security, and indeed supporting and insisting on that. That, I think, will be more productive than constant complaining about such vague concepts as "hassle" , and ranting about loss of freedom.

That's the key. It is the empowered pax and flight crews who make me feel a little better. Nothing done by FAa, DOT or any other alphabet soup seems to be working for us.
7 knives pass security at O'Hare. Reid's shoe passes thru security. Bullets in FLL, GA guy running past security at ATL. Milage Run's idiot's 9mm passed through security. [Caught at gate by random search ..so one for random I guess...still should have been caught by the Argenbrite Idiots soon to be Federal Idiots (or is that "The Security formally known as Argenbrite???")]
How many more security breaches have there been??????
Soooo we are hassled, groped, felt up, examined, xrayed, sniffed, herded into long lines, missed flights and to what avail?

I vote for HASSELED!
Groped, felt-up, whatever; it is a sham to make the great unwashed Mr. & Mes. Hayseed feel like there is greater security in the skies, and we just know that that is NOT true.
The hugh gaps in ground staff security, and the gaps in pax security makes all of these a "groping" laugh. Most pax are travelling on airliners with a "most" dangerous "weapon" on each and every pax. Not for me to reveal what this weapon is, since this is a "public" site, but please believe me, El Al is most aware of this gap.
If El Al knows about it then so do the terrorists.
The biggest hole is ground staff security.
Please, let's get real about security and stop the "Mom & Pop" crap that is being foisted upon us in the name of "security".
