newbie, please help?

I am new to this forum and am interested in getting discount tixs, and/or upgrades. There is an article in the Washington Post about codeshare QUP and YUP but unclear of how to access them. Is there a site that defines all the different sharecodes, which ones are cheaper and how to access them, and how to find out the best ways to get the most frequent flyer miles? Looking through web sites it lists fare codes but they all look foreign to me and I don't have a code to decipher them with. I would appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Welcome to FT.

If you go to the specific airline forum you are interested in, then you will find many discussions on the fares that were detailed in the the Wall Street Journal article.

Those fares have been discussed for some time on Flyertalk.
