I believe the AA tie has already ended. Taca miles are worthless unless you fly them every year. Show up at the airport 12 hours before flight departure because they are unbelieveably slow at checkin (exagerating a little). Most Taca post go in the other North and South America Forum at the end of the list of airlines.

Useless is a good term for TACA miles. Expiration plan is lousy. Flew two years in a row and the third year my first year miles expired.
I don't believe the offer upgrades for mileage either.
I just called to find out about buying miles and I have to go to office at airport a few hours away.
I'll probably loose the remaining ones and be done with them.

San Salvador has a very nice, very small airport. All gates in the same room. It is very likely that you will make your connection.
It's true that TACA has terrible service in the U.S. You should get to the airport at least 3 hours in advance. (No kidding.) In San Francisco I once watched a check in clerk watch a family shrink wrap all of it luggage for 20 minutes, without taking anyone else in line. And most info given to me by TACA employees in the U.S. was wrong. But the situation is entirely different outside of the U.S. The TACA help desk at the Costa Rica airport is the best in the world. They, and the TACA people in Peru were extremely helpful when I was stranded there 9/11/01. And that TACA desk has been most helpful at other times. TACA is my favorite airline for getting around Central and South America.

I think they were set to go with UAL or star, but something happened. The TACA website seemed to have a lot of updates on 4/26/2006
and I know that UAL had flight loaded for a code-share for LAX to SJO with LR and those are now gone.
So your guess is as good as mine as to the future in the miles world for LR/TA.
the relationship with American is ending on June 30, 2006.
