Umbrella OK in carry on?

I usually carry a folding umbrella in my carryon. Does anyone know if these items are banned under the new security rules? Thanks

I always pack my travel umbrella in my rolling carry-on bag and nothing has been said about it on any of my trips since Sep. 11.

I had one in my jacket pocket last week, they didn't care, but did take the scissors from a hotel sewing kit my wife had (which she has had for years in her purse, and has traveled with since the 11th). Go figure.

It's no problem unless you're flying on Continental from Costa Rica to Houston. It was an expensive one so I had to check my bag or lose it. They also wanted to take my nail clippers and aerosol bug spray. I guess some of these other countries are still in that overreaction stage that we were in (uh... probably still in) during the first few weeks after 9/11.

No problems with an umbrella being carried on a NW flight this weekend . . .

Okay, slightly off topic, but related. Want to hear CRAZY. Was going to take in a movie today, and it turns out that Regal Cinema's have posted a new rule. You can not go into the theatre with shopping bags or backpacks. Glad we read the sign before we bought our tickets. We walked away and heard some others asking WHY?

This is so stupid. Shameful. Scaring people. Dumb. Reactionary. If I was President, I would shame them on National TV.

Sounds more like trying to keep people from bringing in their own food and drink under the guise of security. (shrug)

I used to love to bring in my own stuff when I was in college like beer and peanuts.

Go to some theaters in Queens like Sunrise and you'll have to go through a metal detector; they've been doing it for years for safety. It's funny how I still look for the X-ray when I walk up sometimes. It's been programmed into me now.

No, I don't think so. You can still put food in purses or in jackets. Have been known to do it. If you happen to buy something in the mall on the way to the movies though, you can not enter. Or if you happen to travel with a backpack, tough luck.

Stupid.
