bumps... what's next?

I thought that after 9-11 the flights will be empty... it seems many people (at FTers at least) keep up their flying habbits.

So what will be the chance to get bump on Christmas Day? Flights seems sold out but again maybe just the cheap inventories.

Personally, I hope the odds for a bump are real good on that day....

I thought that Christmas day was typically not a busy travel day, since those who celebrate Christmas don't want to miss out on the festivities, just like the day before Thanksgiving is the busy travel day, while Thanksgiving itself usually has cheap airfare and empty planes.

I too think that there's not much traffic on Christmas-Day.

Remember that the 24th of Dec. this year is a monday. So most of travel would be on Fri/Sat/Sun. There should be a higher possibility of bumps on these days. And still a good chance to get home for the 24th...

Saturday the 22nd seems to be the heaviest booked so far out of Friday thru Monday. (Must be due to Saturday night stay fares)

Reportedly flights are about as full, on the average, as they were last year. Fewer people are flying, but airlines have cut schedules and capacity by about the same percentage. So the bump situation should be about the same.

My hope is that the yield-management software is confused enough by the recent changes to underestimate how many pax will show up.

One of the best flights I ever took was LAX-EWR on CO on Christmas day once in F with my whole family. It was wonderful because service was fabulous, food excellent, great views out the window, and almost empty.

Christmas Day is an excellent day to travel but not to get bumped.
