Anyone Get Bumped This Thanksgiving

Read many articles since 9-11 which stated that passenger loads have dropped to between about 50%-65%. But I was kind of hoping that flights this past weekend would fill up, which makes me wonder: did anyone get bumped from any airline this past Thanksgiving. If so how much was the travel voucher for?

My UA SFO-LHR flights were running at a gruesome* 98% full, alas, not full enough for bumps or op-ups.

*gruesome because I was on a cheap-cheap award in the back (E+) of a 777 and no hope for a paid upgrade.

Yeah, I hate that dead zone: too full for an upgrade, not full enough for a voluntary bump. Elites and most especially low-level elites probably dislike the 95% loads the most.

And in general: my experiance was that all those flights I was on after 9/11 and the cancellations where much more full than before. Not one out of 10 segments I've flown was less than 90% full...

I got one outta DTW yesterday(Sunday)...small prop planes were oversold to all kinds of places in the MidWest. Free RT on NW...would of liked a voucher so I could get miles, but I'll have to settle for a freebie...

Good for you, but how dumb is the airline to rebook you onto oversold flights twice? I know they do this fairly often, but it's just really dumb on their part ... really makes you wonder ...

I didn't get bumped on my LAX-IAD-LAX flights. In fact, LAX-IAD was horribly empty in back (747-400) on Wed, Nov 21.

But my brother-in-law's parents were bumped from IAD-LGA (United or United Express...not sure). They got 2 free domestic roundtrips.

My friend got bumped TWICE (consecutive bumps) going from PHX-SNA (Orange County). $400 the first time, and $500 the second time.

UA DEN-BOS yesterday afternoon was oversold -- comp was free RT ticket and reaccomodation on Frontier two hours later. I think at least 4 seats were needed. Didn't take it since I had upgraded, but otherwise probably would have fought it out with the college kids swarming the podium.

NW DTW-SYR 1030a. Oversold. 5 volunteers. $300 voucher compensation plus $10 meal vouchers. First two volunteers rebooked to 156p flight in F. Remaining rebooked to 900p flight.

NW DTW-SYR 0156p. Oversold. 3 volunteers. $300 voucher compensation. First volunteer rebooked to DTW-NW-PIT-US-SYR in F leaving at 305p arriving in SYR at 600p. Remaining rebooked to 630p flight.

NW DTW-PIT 305p. F almost empty! Y somewhat full.

US PIT-SYR 450p. Oversold. 2 volunteers. Free RT ticket within the US and free dinner. Rebooked to 1015p flight. (IMHO, a free award class ticket isn't worth a 5 hour wait.)

We were on Delta from Atlanta to New York on Saturday evening, they were not bumping people, but the flight was 100%, and there were 47 names on the standby list (with several of them multiple people). I was hoping they would fofer, but were told no bumps this flight.

Got bumped on Delta from SLC->SFO twice in a row; the 10pm Saturday night departure, then the 11am Sunday departure. Tried again on the 3:15 flight, but no dice (oh well -- had to get home at _some_ point!)

wound up with $800 each + a hotel room...

Had the opportunity on both EWN-CLT (tiny prop plane from eastern NC) and then on CLT-LGA last night (Sun 25 Nov). Were offering free round-trip. If I hadn't had urgent meeting I would have taken it. *sigh*

Didn't get bumped.

Thurs:
JAN-DFW ASA-CRJ, less than 50% load
DFW-SEA DL -757, 5 FC seats open, 90+% Y
SEA-YVR SkyWest-Brasilia 120, 4 passengers

Sun:
YVR-SEA AirBC-Dash8-100, 5 passengers
SEA-ATL DL-767-300ER(G), Full in BE, Full in Y *
ATL-JAN DL-MD88, Full in F, 4 seats open in Y **

* Got on as last standby passenger for BE (confirmed F on later flight). There were 26 open seats when I checked in 2.5 hours before departure. Appeared to have lots of airline employees and their families in BE. Full in Y.

** Standby, got into Y in my least favorite seat - window looking at the side of the engine ... but it got me home earlier!

For those on DL, don't forget that DL is the same as the AS terminal. Therefore, DL flights from SEA were also affected during the problem (including re-checks at destination). I was told by CRC staff in SEA that lots of delays and missed connections because of that causing a blip in the system for mid- to late-afternoon Saturday flights across the country.
