I was absolutely glued to that view finder.. great news. No, they'll get there first, be jet lagged, grumpy, and when you get there it will be all your fault. It amazes me how long it takes some guys to figure out that it's ALWAYS your fault

Oh, it's not that bad. Let's see, you're going to live in Virginia? They won't be too far away, it's only around 30 minutes from my house to IAD and I live across the river.

As for compensation, I am sure that some will be offered to them. I would wait and see what Alaska does and then if that's not enough, ask for more.

Here's the update via the miracle of cellular phones:

Mrs. MileageAddict said plane landed hard and at a crooked angle. I took that to mean the 737-700 landed with one engine. The captain initially told passengers over the PA not to be alarmed if there were fire trucks along the runway when landing. As they got closer to SEA, he informed them there would not be a parade of flashing lights and sirens awaiting them. Both Mrs. MileageAddict and JuniorAddict received vouchers redeemable for 1000 miles as an apology. Since neither of them have an AS account (they are accumulating miles on AS partner NW), I'll get my hot little hands on those vouchers for my AS account! So....I'm earning miles while cleaning out the refrigerator at home!

Replacement plane was waiting for the passengers and is already boarding.

Hurray for them, Huray for you, Hurray for the Captain, Hurray for AS! I am so glad they are safe. I didn't see this until after it was over, but it must have been a tough wait. Glad it is over.

Brother... I am riding AS2 with two colleagues this Thursday 11/29... I'll hope for better luck. But am glad your family is safe and sound, MileageAddict.

Wow. A relief after a scary day. I'm sure I speak for many FlyerTalkers when I say I share your happiness that all ended well.
