Has anybody noticed recently that the sockets that airline headphones plug into seem to be really loose on many seats? This is espeically true on UA.
Seems like they all need to be fixed. Otherwise, it is a real challenge to be able to hear anything!
On one flight, I had to wrap the cord around the armrest so I could pull on it, keeping constant downward pressure.

I had this same problem on a CO flight from EWR to MSY at the beginning of the month. You had to keep "jiggling" it to hear the movie. I finally just gave up and went to sleep. I was in first so I can imagine it was probably worse is coach

I have noticed this on UA as well. I pretty much on fly UA, so I don't know if it's a problem elseware.

The headphone connections on Northwest are the worst of all! I keep trying to plug my headphones into the armrest so I can watch the eagerly-anticipated inflight movie and I get nothing but sore fingers from trying to adjust them so I can hear something
But seriously folks, the ones on CO have gotten really bad as of late. Granted I haven't been on any of the nice big new planes recently, but the old ones need some work for sure!
The sockets for the earphone pins should be on the front of the arms, so that when you get up those small seats, you don't put pressure on the pins and loosen the sockets. Many people forget to unplug their earphones, when they get ou of their sears!
I did notice this recently, when I had to downgrade from first because my partner's upgrade didn't come through even though mine had.
One thing I noticed was that my new Sony Walkman headphones, which I happened to have with me, stayed in the socket much better than the UA issue headphones. Maybe the headphone plugs themselves are becoming significantly worn as well as the jacks in the seats?

I've just completed my 24th segment on CO since 9/11. I purchased for $2.00 my first pair of their new "won't mess up your hair" head sets. Subsequently sitting in the front of the bus I have been given more head sets. I've only had a problem on 1 of the 24 segments with the jack not working properly. Unfortunately for my checkbook I was offered a chance to try the Boze noise cancelling headphones by the person sitting next to me last night. It was like being in a different space. I'm getting a pair as soon as I can.
I just flew CO and recieved a set of head sets for free in First. They worked fine except that half the channels of audio were not working. The flight crew had no idea why. I'll be on a NW DC-10 to AMS in a few weeks. Does anyone know if NW in coach has upgraded the audio system to electronic sets or do they still use the old air tube head sets? Do they charge for those sets or are they free?
We had a really bad experience on TWA a few weeks ago. Every few minutes there would be a loud, painful noise and then we'd have to turn the volume all the way up again... very annoying! (and we paid $5 each for that!?!)

exitrow - there are 4 or so threads on headsets in one of the forums (omni or travelbuzz I think). The opinions are varied, but one set, the sony nc-10 was mentioned as a great option at half the bose cost.
