Send a copy of your card and your Starwood activity, make sure it shows at least 10 stays in the previous 12 months. |

Thanks for the info glff. I am sitting on an RA referal cert to give to my husband in June. Hopefully the one that comes with his welcome package will expire after Dec since my RA status ends Dec 2007. I was wondering if they would let him refer me back.:D

Report of successful request for a Marriott Gold challenge (12 nights in 3 months, including backdating the challenge to include 9 nights already stayed the previous month):

I would like to get a match for SPG P, just found out that they down-graded me from Gold back to Corporate :(
For some reason I never received the actual plastic card for Hyatt Diamond, would the online print out that showing the status work? |

Starwood is the most interesting case. Their status always lasts at least 12 months, and status expires Feb 28. So if you get comped to Platinum after March 1, it can't expire Feb 28 of the following year -- 'cause status would have lasted less than 12 months -- so it lasts until Feb 28 of the NEXT year. Example: if you took a comp today (March 30, 2007 in the U.S.) then your status would expire February 28 2009. ;)
On April 17, I sent a fax to the (512) # per the Starwood Lurker post, requesting SPG Plat based on HHonors Diamond. Got an email back today, [yadda, yadda, welcome]... we have upgraded you to the Starwood Preferred Guest Platinum Preferred Level. This is a one time only exception. In order to retain your Platinum Level membership, you will need to have a minimum of twenty five stays or fifty room nights. This number is based upon a calendar year basis, January 1 through December 31. |
It looks like they made it pretty clear, it's calender based. Although I don't think the status expire right away after 12/31. My status didn't get down graded until mid april.
|
Nothing to worry about, actually, that's the standard response 'a comp is one time, you have to requalify now, here's how you do it.'
Just email SPG and ask what the expiration of your Platinum status is. |
Platinum Comp Time Period
I apologize if this has been asked before!
I want to use my Starwood Platinum status to get a match at some of the other chains, but I'm wondering if there is a timing element to it. For example, once I am comped, is it for a full year regardless of when my Starwood Plat expires? Or can I only get comped for a year from when I first turned Plat at Starwood? I'm just wondering if I can stretch out my comps over as long as possible. Any help would be much appreciate. Thanks! |

QUOTE] I am pretty sure that if you did it now, they would match you through the end of the year, but in the past when I have asked for matches, I made sure it was at the end of or begining of the year to maximize on the time I had. Good luck! |
Starwood will only upgrade you to a certain level only once. BUT: will they upgrade you to a different level next time?
|
Not sure I understand, there's only one Starwood level worth bothering to have (Platinum). But Gold is an easy get via a number of channels, and does get you 4pm checkout..

Updated a Radisson link.

Hotel Status Match for SPG Platinum???
There's a million messages here but I'm having a hard time deciphering which hotels which match SPG Platinum and how good is the status they match you to.
I'm upset to report that my platinum experience has been beyond poor and I see no reason to not to give other hotel brands a chance to change my loyalty. I honestly I only have stayed in Starwood hotels for years so this is Virgin Territory, I don't know how good Marriott vs. Hyatt vs. Hilton vs. Intercontinental is and whether elite status is better at those places than Starwood. Any assistance is appreciated. FYI, I have 60+ stays so far this calendar year and another 40-50+ to go the remainder of the year. |
Without knowing where you travel, what you value in a hotel and a loyalty program, and what your complaints about Starwood are, it's likely difficult to recommend another chain.
What each program will do based on your SPG Platinum status is summarized in the first post in this thread. Hyatt will give you their top tier. Marriott and Hilton may offer you a fast track to status. Priority Club will offer their relatively meaningless top tier (Platinum, as distinguished from the Intercontinental Ambassador/Royal Ambassador levels)... |
Does anybody know if Starwood/Hilton/Hyatt/Mariott will match Kempinski Private Concierge ?
Thanks |

Very true. And there are some discounted offers with good mileage signup bonuses. Alas no more $10 trial that included SPG status and 2 RCC passes that I'm aware of. :(
Since I have both Starwood and Hilton Gold status, I think that I'll try for the Hyatt upgrade. |
It's interesting that Hyatt will give the top tier level for HH Gold or by demonstrating 10 stays in last 12 months - this shouldn't be a problem for me.
Now, I am just curious (yes, one could say I am being greedy and should have myself stay at hotels to earn status) - will SPG grant me their plat status for comped Hyatt Diamond status, which won't have any stay records? This is ultimately to say that I am seeking for SPG plat status and not really interested in Hyatt Diamond (unless it is a means to get SPG plat status). Curious Brahms77 |

Curious Brahms77 If your stay history with Hyatt shows some activity, then it's not uncommon for SPG Plat to be granted to Hyatt Diamonds. If I were a Hyatt Diamond just matched to SPG Gold, I'd write back to Starwood saying the benefits of SPG Gold aren't enough to get me to switch when I can get SPG Gold without the status match too. |
If I request the Starwood Platinum as a Marriott Platinum member, do I have to return the Marriott plat. card or can I keep it.
|
You'd get to keep it as normal, the programs are completely seperate.
|
Can this be made a sticky?
|
I submitted my Marriott Platinum information to SPG on Thursday afternoon and was give Platinum status with SPG by mid Friday afternoon. I have to say I'm very impressed with the speed in which they processed the request.

I received the email below.
As you are already an elite member, Platinum with Marriott Rewards, we realize your potential patronage of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide is great. As a result, we have upgraded you to the Starwood Preferred Guest Platinum Preferred Level good now thru 2008. This is a one time only exception. In order to retain your Platinum Level membership for 2009, you will need to have a minimum of twenty five stays or fifty room nights. This number is based upon a calendar year basis, January 1 through December 31. A Starwood Preferred Guest Platinum Preferred card has been ordered. You may expect your card to arrive in approximately six to eight weeks. In the meantime, you may print a copy of your temporary card from the Starwood Preferred Guest Website http://www.starwood.com/preferredguest. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at 888-xxx-xxxx. Welcome to Platinum Best regards, |

Hilton Gold for booking a wedding?
Not sure if it belongs in here but I am a bit confused in a recent mailing I received where I was offered complimentary Hilton Gold status.
I am currently PC RA / Plat and haven't stayed in any Hilton hotel for quite some time. I did however recently book my upcoming wedding (in January 08) at a DoubleTree suites. @:-) Do you think this could because of the wedding booking? I didn't ask for a status match or anything else I could think of? |

Thanks again, gleff, for another status match thread. I faxed Starwood on Monday, requesting an upgrade to platinum status. I included a letter outlining my request, my HH account summary, a copy of my HH Diamond card, and a screenshot of my Starwood Gold account status. I received an email this morning, identical to the one BJD1r received. I just checked my account status, and it shows me as a Platinum Preferred Guest.

And which is the best hotel program if I want to spend little money for the revenue rooms and get most out of it? I am so far a Diamond member with Hilton and may want to see some other nice hotels. |

Could be a possible tie-in with one of your airline programs. I had a similar offer for instant SPG gold in the mail and found out it had been a promotion to CO Plats.

Starwood to Priority Club match
I recently (10 days ago) asked Priority Club (via customer service email address) to match my Starwood Platinum status. Often I stay in smaller cities/towns where there is no Starwood, but there probably is some sort of Holiday Inn.
PC asked for proof in a fax or email. I emailed my "recent activity" and cut and pasted my summary from SPG.com. THAT was the hardest part--here's a hint, cut and paste, and then change the font color to black to see what you've pasted. A week later my request was granted for the rest of 2007. BUT, to qualify for 2008, I must start from zero and have to make the same requirements as a person that signed up for PC on 1/1/2007. I have a pending request to grant my status through 2008 or to cancel the original request. We'll see what happens. |

Dear wnielsen1, Thank you for your recent message to Starwood Preferred Guest. I welcome this opportunity to assist you. We do offer a status match to encourage members to switch to our program. As requested I have upgraded your Starwood Preferred Guest account to the Gold Elite status. I have ordered a replacement card for you that will show you as a Gold member. Please allow six to eight weeks for this to be received. If the address on your account is not a valid address please send the updated information to me. While updating your Starwood Preferred Guest account I noticed that you recently had a stay at... |
HH Diamond Challenge
I was able to get a diamond challenge for HH from PC IC Plat Royal Ambassador. My RA status was gifted but I had several IC stay records for this year. My HH Diamond Challenge was given for three months with 10 stay or 20 night requirement.
