They often advertise in the Classifieds of USAToday. I don't remember the phones of any with whom I dealt--8 or more years ago.

Reading the posts here and through my history, I conclude the coupon brokers are mostly honest and it's the airlines that are the cheaters. The airlines will make your travels miserable and expensive. They will try to take take as much money out of your pocket as they can. When you need a ticket to get to a funeral or emergency, they will sock it to your pocketbook. When you get enough miles for an award, they will up the amount you need. Using brokers are one way to stick it to them. The airlines already made the money for selling the miles. They want to also tell you how and who you can transfer it to. They are miserable creatures. Although I never sold any miles, I fully support this situation.

Could'nt the same be said for attorneys? A few bad ones have ruined the reputation of the many good ones out there. I think the term brokers is incorrect. The ones I have used are legitimate travel agents. They buy $1,000 in miles, sell a $5,000 first class ticket to Europe for $2500.

Odd....When I spell "broker" backward, I get "rekorb."

Maybe it's a compatability problem with my web browser.

1. If you do an Internet search for "airline coupon broker" (without the quotation marks), you'll find some.

2. You'll see ads for them at various travel sites. I clicked on one of them, went to their site. They sounded good and I called for information. Got voice mail, asking me to leave a message. I did so, and they called me back promptly are were quite easy to talk to.

On the other hand, at another heavily advertised site I didn't find enough information. The only way to contact them was via e-mail, which I used to ask them a couple of questions. Never got a reply -- which is enough to put them on my "avoid" list.

3. If there's some way for me to give people the phone number of the company I repeatedly used years ago (last I heard, they're still in business) and/or the company I just recently talked to that sounded good, I'd be glad to. But I have a hunch that posting that info here might violate a forum rule.

Please excuse this question, as I am new to FT. Can someone please clarify just what the airlines consider to be improper use of mileage acct? I have several hundred thousand miles on several airlines. On a few occasions, I have let family or friends use my miles to travel. I always do the booking myself, and the taxes are always charged to my credit card. Since I'm not making money off this and not using a broker, is this considered ok by the airlines? No one using my miles has ever been asked questions regarding them.

It's absolutely okay and approved by the airlines.

Whoever you arrange travel for should, however, be prepared to tell the airline people at the airport how they happen to be flying on your miles.

I don't mean they have to "justify" the trip or explain their private business.

But they should know your name, where you live, and be able to answer the question, "What's your relationship to the person whose miles you're using?" (They don't have to be a relative. "Friend" or "co-worker" is fine.)

Just in case they're asked.
