I have a farm bureau Bank credit card that gives me 2% cash back and other is American Express with 1.5% cash back. However I can enroll into Amex card into Membership rewards program for $40 annual fee. Wanted to know whether Membership rewards works with cash-rebate or not and if yes then which of the cards is better?

Thanks

With the exception of the regular optima platinum card and maybe one other, the membership rewards program only works with the charge cards, not the optima credit card line of products.

2% > 1.5%

Visa/MC is more accepted than Amex

Doesn't sound like much of a decision to me.

Depends on the rewards Amex gives you. I assume that since you are asking this question on a frequent flyer miles forum, you would gather miles for the Amex rewards. My site below tells you how to value those miles for the use you would give them. Click on Free Frequent Flyer Miles in the left menu, then Value of Miles in the topo menu.

But why would you pay $40 for an Amex card? You can get one for free (for a year) plus a bonus of 10000 Delta Airlines miles for free. Click on Credit Cards in the top menu.

I don't think AmEx cash rebate card is eligible for MR. Additionally, it doesn't have CDW coverage.

dbaker is 100% correct. The Amex "No Fee" Cash Back Platinum Optima does not earn MR points.

So we're back to the basic equation of 2% > 1.5%, so the FB card is better.
