1st post thanks for the help everyone
We are going to be going on a cruise for our honeymoon the 2nd weekend in June 06.
Leaving from Detroit which is Northwest Hub, but there are a lot of others also.
Would we be able to book our cruise using a new CC ($3,000) then right away turn around and use those points for our flight to the cruise location? We will most likely be leaving from Florida.
What CC would be the best option for this, and can it be done, as the turnaround time is so quick. Is there a time limit on when you can cash in your points? Is it even worth it?
TIA

$3000=3000 points or miles
This is really not enough to be useful/helpful to get you on a flight. Usually, you'll need upwards of 50,000 miles to get tickets for both of you. Are you planning on using this card heavily to gain more points?
Also, there is a difference between cards that give you points (Citi, Diners Club) and cards that issue miles (Alaska Air, AA). Both have their pros and cons.

plan on 2 billing cycles for your points/miles to show up - initially
unless you already have miles in your account, you will need at least 40k for 2 roundtrip coach class tickets
to maximize see if you can get an equivalent cruise through on of the on line malls and get some extra points on top of those
aa or co may give a companion cert with their cc, along with 10k to 15k miles
united will give 15k to 20k miles after first purchase
or 50k for $500 with the ameniti purchase
dl gives 10k to 15k with their amex card

some other things you might look into [1st, spend some time on flyer talk, checking cc's, cruises,etc]....
some airlines offer cruise packeges which earn mi's [aa,ua i know], but check prices closely....
consider taking the cruise line air , if the price is ok, because if there is a blip in the flights, they are obligated to get you to the ship's next port if you miss the boat...
have a great time....happy new year.
