I'm aware that one can get owner rewards points for buying Starbuck's coffee by mail order. Does anyone know if it is possible to get miles (without having to trade)?

Andrew Cram's Online Shopping Rewards Comparison Table
Also, not to belabor the obvious, but if you use a mileage-earning credit card for any purchase (including purchase of a Starbucks card), that will get you miles too.

If you have a credit card that gives double miles for grocery store purchases, you can buy your starbucks card at the grocer and use it at your neighborhood starbucks. I know that safeway stores sell them.

I also buy gift cards at drug stores. I then take the gift cards and go redeem them at the stores the cards are to be used at.
I get 2x what I would normally get had I just charged it directly.

Chase Continental Mastercard
Since July 1, 2005 I have earned 115 miles at Starbucks using my CO MC
Lets see, that is an average of 28 miles per month. If I figure right, in 74 years I will have free domestic ticket.
I am addicted - I think I will go get a cup right now

I think I've learned something from all of you. This morning went to Safeway and bought 2 $25 Starbucks cards with my *wood AX card. So I get 25 United miles (for every $250 = 125 miles) and 50 *wood pts which I will later convert to miles. Thanks!
Oh, forgot to add that I knocked off another holiday gift off my list!

You are right! I called my local Safeway store who told me buying gift cards counted toward airline miles. Then I called 1-877-Safeway and they said "No, gift cards are provided as a service." Back to the drawing board.
