I am stunned that with all that has happenned in the past few days that you have the incredible nerve to bring up "the lies" the airlines have told you about cell phones.
The country is mourning the most horrific tragedy in modern memory and your self-centered posturing is enough to make me sick.
Those of you complaining about cell phones, baggage restrictions, and mileage runs must lead such empty lives that you were not touched by what happenned on September 11.
I am equally disgusted that moderators on this board see fit to allow this type of conversation to continue.
Actually, I'm surprised that I haven't seen one of you Einsteins start a thread complaining about how you are going to cut your steak without a knife when you use your segment upgrades to 1st class in the future.
People are dead and you idiots are complaining about your these little inconveniences.
At 12:00 PM today the nation will be holding a moment of silence for the victims of this tragedy. During this silence, you should all bow your heads in shame and think more about the people that have experienced real loss this week, rather than your own petty unimportant problems.
If any of you have a soul, you will start a flyer talk donation thread, and you will all raise money to go to the victims of this disaster.
I can tell you I am not holding my breath for that to happen.</font>

If you are new and this is, indeed, your first post:
you are not welcome. Don't attack a community you know nothing about. The members are generally warm, caring people who go out of their way to help their fellow woman/man.
If you are using an alternate handle, and you've been around:
Shame on you. Stand up to what you believe and most will respect you for it, even if they disagree.

I think first time posters as thruz1 are not first posters, but people hiding behind an assumed identity because they are cowards and must know that their words are inflamatory. We are all deeply affected by what has happened. That we are struck by how cell phones were used in this tragedy is definitely worth speculating about. Until now I didn't think it mattered what kind of cell phone I had. Now I want one that can work from the skies in an emergency. I didn't know that they COULD work. Now I know some do. We all want to feel safe and know how to deal with a crisis. Maybe we should judge you thruz1 for spending your time at FT at all, rather than at a prayer vigil. By the way, thruz1 have YOU donated blood and made a cash donation. Just wondering what YOU have done.

Come on - none of us are without care or empathy for Sept 11th. We are upset that all these silly rules are being implemented to "fool" America. None of these rules would have helped with Sept 11. THAT is why we are complaining.
These rules are about to kill the airline industry. And more lives.

thruz1 --
I saw both towers fall. I felt the shockwave, and smelled the ash. I knew two pax on AA #11, one of whom was 7 months pregnant. I still have 10+ friends who worked in the WTC and are missing.
I have no problem with this thread. I do not find it at all out of place, insensitive, or callous.
I do have a problem with the cell phone ban on airplanes because Boeing and Airbus conducted joint tests 2 years ago where planes had the equivalent of 30,000 simultaneous cell phone signals being generated inside, and there was zero impact on the plane electronics. The fact that the airlines continue to say that this is the reason for the ban reduces their credibility, which hurts them in other ways.
If they instead announced that cell phone usage was prohibited because the FCC has restricted use because of the cell system design, I would be just fine.
But they don't. They give us misinformation.
And, since you brought it up, the knife and corkscrew restriction is absurd. The way it's being implimented would not have prevented the awful acts of Tuesday that all of us will remember for our entire lives.
