Did you cancel plans to fly tomorrow?

I had reservations to fly UA Shuttle from LAX to PDX tomorrow & return Monday. I called the UA PremEx line & asked if they could use my seat. They said they would need it (under normal circumstances, I would have gone & tried to get the VDB's, etc). There may be stranded pax needing the seat. I paid for the ticket with a $150 cert & $9.50 on CC. UA said they will refund the ticket. I mentioned that they can send me a $150 cert & refund the CC the $9.50 if that would help. Anyway, the main driving force for me was that it was not an essential trip & a stranded passenger could make it home to Portland, Oregon & be able to go nonstop. One small bit of help in this terrible situation.

No, I didn't cancel, but I took advantage of the generous terms the airlines are offering right now and changed the departure on my Saturday-night-stay-required-ticket to coming Monday instead.

I didn't cancel, but was cancelled.

I probably would have ended up cancelling as the ground stop wore on. My plan had been to go to the airport and surrender my seat if it was needed for someone to get home.

Of course, I made that plan when I figured most stranded would have already gotten home, so that's why I say it was almost certain that I would have cancelled anyway.

I have a mileage run to Phoenix out and back on Monday. I'm considering my options:

1. Cancel and get a refund/voucher.
2. Call them and ask for the mileage and not fly.
3. Fly

Part of me would like to get back on a plane as soon as possible. I certainly would give up my seat if it's needed by someone with more important reasons to fly than a mileage run. I would be more than happy to let the airline keep the money if they would give me the mileage.

Opinions?

I called and changed a weekend trip from leaving this Friday to two weeks later. I asked if standed passengers couldn't better use the seats. AA promptly changed my travel dates. Wish everyone can get home safely.

I think option 2 is highly unlikely!!!! Why not save your $$$ and do a mileage run later in the year.

I was supposed to fly EWR-DEN-SEA on friday 9/13.

Since the NFL has decided to cancel this weekend's games, and honestly, since I'm a tad bit fearful of this hijacking trend, I've decided to head to Philly this weekend to visit with "friends".

However, next friday I am going to be trying my darndest to get back to SEA.

My boyfriend and I had tix from SJC to BWI last night on UA. Obviously, this didn't happen. I went to the UA ticket office again this morning to see how we could get to BWI by Sat. morning. My boyfriend is in a buddy's wedding on Sat. noon. We knew we were going to miss the rehersal... but just hoping to make the wedding on time.

The UA agent was very helpful... unfortunately, the only way she could get us there in time for the Sat. wedding is a crazy 24+ hour cross-country venture. I said to book it... on the chance that flights will take off tomorrow morning.

Right now, we're schedule to depart SJC at 6:22am to DEN. From DEN to DFW... and then DFW to ORD. We arrive at ORD at 7:12pm and our flight to BWI isn't until 6am Sat.

Does anyone know about ORD airport hotels helping stranded travelers? We're just looking for a free/cheap place to stay from Sat. night until 4am Sun?? (on the off chance that all our flights happen as scheduled tomorrow)

BTW, I sure am appreciative of those of you who are cancelling plans for this weekend. Unfortunately, I think chances are slim that we're going to make the wedding. The other groomsman, coming from San Diego, won't be making it for sure since he's flying US Air and they couldn't re-book him on a flight until next week!
