Consequences at Networld/Interop (tradeshow in Atlanta)

There is a tradeshow going on in Atlanta for computer networking--started Sunday, but really began (exhibit floor open, etc) on Tuesday.

I went down yesterday...some observations

...heard that 60% of the attendees were local (ATL based)--indication was that normally only 40% would be local.

...they rejiggered some of the sessions, as presenters were unable to arrive on time.

...closed showfloor 1 1/2 hrs early Wednesday, and will close entirely 2 hrs early on Thursday.

...quite a few of the big exhibitors (Intel stuck out to me) had closed and were roped off, or were being closed Wednesday afternoon

...heard that Microsoft chartered buses to go back to Seattle on Wednesday morning. Their booth was staffed by local folks.

...rental cars seemed to be available for people driving home (met one guy driving back to Detroit)

...spoke w/one woman who flew from IAD at 0710 on Tuesday--she was obviously very emotional about it. She said she didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, but she said that IAD seemed more crowded/bustling than normal. She mentioned that her co. lost their COO on one of the flights.

A rather eerie experience. Stay safe, everyone and good luck with your travels home.

I also went by the show. I've been to 6 Interop shows in the past. I've never seen one so quite. Between current events and the slow tech market the show was barren.
