I am planning to fly from YUL to SIN in early Nov for about 8-10 days and am a bit deviled by the vast array of options for this type of trip 9 (thru NYC, West Coast, Europe, Dubai...). I would definitely like to fly something like SIngapore Airlines' Executive Economy, but the NYC-SIN fare of $1400 seems a bit steep... Any suggestions on how I can fly there (open to leaving from anywhere in the US as a departure point) while getting mileage (I am an AAdvantage and Aeroplan member) and getting there rested ?
One option I was thinking about was upgrading one-way on AA to NRT, any thoughts on that? I much appreciate our collective brain's knowledge and suggestions ....

Least time wasted - you fly overnight YUL->LHR/FRA/MUC/CDG, then leave around noon and arrive SIN early the next morning. Best option if you can sleep on planes. Only makes sense if you go direct Europe->SIN. The connection in CDG is the most grotty.
2) Transpacific. You fly morning YUL->YYZ/ORD/LAX/SFO/YVR and then direct to SIN for the last 3 or through HKG or NRT for the 1st 2 and arrive in SIN in the evening. For me, makes less sense since you arrive disoriented after awkwardly timed connections, but may be more competitive since all the transpacific carriers have periodic special offers across the pacific...some avail only on their websites. Singapore Airlines (Aeroplan miles) had a good offer to YVR a while back, and a friend of mine flew United from YOW through ORD and HKG/NRT for about $1600 Cdn in economy in April.
Don't know about the Dubai option.
