After spending a significant amount of time analyzing the pros and cons of anonymous moderation, Moderator 1 and myself are revealing our actual handles. The technical issues as to how our screen names will read in the future need to be worked out, so bear with us. Please continue to email us via the profile listed under our "Moderator" names.

I'm happy to see this! Unless you really want to change your user names to "Moderator craig6z" and "Moderator burkey", you can always keep using the M1 and M2 handles and just put your regular username in the signature/profile/both.
It should be emphasized that e-mails concerning moderation go to the e-mail addresses listed in the moderator profiles; likewise messages concerning regular everyday FlyerTalk go to the e-mail addresses listed in the user profiles.
Thank you both.

Well, anonymous moderators have largely stayed put over there, but seemingly few users have. Their number of listed users at 135 right now is 20% less than when the doors opened for public participation and registration a month back. And 24 of those 135 are owners/founders it would seem from reading this thread above - which lists out most of those persons. That does seem to carry a VERY important message about whether frequent flying folks enjoyed masked moderators, or indeed much moderation at all? A great social experiment that failed?

Nice to see the moderator masks are off and that Burkey appears to have changed his mind on the matter. Good even-handed moderation does not need them. I was reading just now a long hand-wringing thread on MoreMiles titled: Who Are The Moderators which contained the quote above.

Little doubt that it is a work in progress!
But hey, that's for another board!

flyboy1, I'd rather not be talking about that other bulletin board here, but there is a perfectly legit explanation for the "20% drop in membership" you describe.
And no, I disagree with your assessment that the anonymous moderators have largely stayed there -- the situation is quite the opposite. But if you're that curious, why don't you register over there and ask the questions yourself? They really are of far more relevance there than here on FlyerTalk. As this is considered an international flight, don't forget your passport.
