Question Is it just me ??

Is this the worst summer season for Hotel promotions anyone can ever remember ?
With a few minor exceptions I can't remember a season in ten years like this or longer.
I am booking away from my favorite chains and gasp staying where I want to!
Looking forward to it in some ways.

I have 10 room nights at boutique hotels not afiliated with any major chain
And no elite status......Will I survive ?

Can anyone tell me where I can attend a 12 step program for going sans free nights ,points and no miles ?
I hope I survive

I hear the National Park Service has some interesting facilities... pack in your own food & water, on horseback...

Yup so are we! Believe it or not, we are actually taking a pleasure trip to Indianapolis tonight. I have broken my Hilton streak because darn it, the Staybridge Suites is right next door to where we are going, has an evening manager's reception with free beer, and a free breakfast. I could get the same rate at the Hilton, but why bother?

I have signed up in the Omni Hotel program and a small handful of other programs Domestically and International. The boredom of offerings and sky high rates along with a increasing group of mediocre properties isn't cutting it anymore.
The points, miles and free nights use to made me look the other way.
Sadly as companies slash their budgets and tighten up they keep me searching for new higher ground at their smaller but more generous competitors. And for many other customers the trend is unmistakable they are creating a huge group of customers who bid on opaque sites and saying goodbye to loyalty as one poster mentions above.

Yeh, but there is no traffic, and you get great views not available anywhere else.
