Pleasant surprise
Flew DFW-LAS-SFO-LAS-DFW, ticketed as DFW-LAS R/T on AA, and separate R/T LAS-SFO on National out and UA back. $300 cheaper than the same flights as a single ticket, and $1000 cheaper than the DFW-SFO R/T's.
Anyway, I'd never flown National before, I don't expect to again, but I signed up online for their FF program anyway. Ya never know, right?
I had 5 hours in Vegas between flights, so I checked in for my 2:15 Nat flight at 9:30, and headed to the casinos. Back at the airport, I go the gate and hear my name called to see the gate agent. I'm thinking, this can't be good.
But I was wrong. As a member of their FF program, they want to thank me with a comp upgrade to First. Bear in mind that this is my first ever segment on National.
I've flown hundreds of segments on AA as Gold and never gotten an Operational/Comp upgrade.
Turns out they're oversold in Coach (offering $200). Anywad, not bad.

National is my favorite domestic airline. I usually by an F ticket but got one comp upgrade out of maybe five coach segments. The lounge in Vegas is nice. They have super-cheap one-way fares with free stopovers in Vegas too.
