Seriously, set the group up at yahoogroups.com, and you don't have to do anything but approve the members. They can sign up with an address direct to yahoo groups, and you can maintain the list there. People send an e-mail to whatever address they come up with, you just go through and check approve for everybody you want on the list. This way you don't get any of it in your mailbox. If you are trying to do this manually, you will be overwhelmed (as you are now). Use one of the online services, like yahoogroups, to do most of the work for you. I use them for three lists, and with the exception of postings from hotmail being delayed for no reason from time to time, never had a problem with it. Best of all, it's free.

Flyertalk info is instantly available, though, except for those times when there are duplicates and you can tell the system has been acting up. I've had mail from many people delayed up to 2 days when various ISPs screw up.

Some people may like to be kept informed by email, others by reading online, others may just want occasional summaries. Nobody wants to be at the mercy of some home-concocted system. If you are serious about this, please do as cordelli suggested and just make it a yahoogroups or similar group, where everything's automated for you and you just approve things.

The reasons for setting the group up by private means are stated in my original post at the Hilton board.

(I have some lists at Yahoo Groups though)

Furthermore a list of this nature that requires intro-mails from all applications would hardly be easier at Yahoo Groups:
I would get an intro-mail from them anyway, and then I would have to log on to Yahoo and find them on the apply list and approve there .

Thanks for the suggestion though.

How would you the "special prices"?

You may have to ask the members of this board to e-mail you all and every "great deal"

You have mail.

I didn't see the original post there.

However, I am on some private lists, and every time the person running it changes ISPs, there's a high risk of list disruption. Every time someone wants to change their email address, they have to send email to the correct address. (How many times have you seen "subscribe" or "unsubscribe" messages sent to actual lists, rather than the list maintainer?)

If someone's email stops working, they can still read their yahoo groups messages. If someone's email is running slowly, they can read their yahoo groups messages sooner than their email. Members in yahoogroups can reply to lists (assuming you are allowing any form of replies to the list, which you may not be??) from different email accounts, whereas most lists will only accept email from the recipient's registered email address.

Most importantly, if something happens to you, you can easily put other people into a moderating capacity on yahoo groups. That tends to be much harder on something you've set up yourself. (I speak as someone who "inherited" control of a yahoo group I'm in due to the original creator not having time to manage the group.)

Despite how yahoo have managed to mangle a few things since egroups ran it, there seem to be many advantages.

This thread is getting nauseatingly long. For those who disagree with this concept, please agree to disagree, and those who wish to e-mail Goldlust to get on the list, please do so without a post, and those with suggestions for Goldlust, please e-mail them or maybe start a new thread...

Those who wish to berate me and subject this idea to scorn and ridicule publicly, please feel free to continue as is...
