I believe I have a complete list of all hostels, private and YHA, in New Zealand. Now would appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually stayed at any of these on which are to be avoided, and why, and which are the best in each location, and why? On the South Island we will stay in Christchurch, Dunedin, Te Anu, Queenstown, Lake Wanaka, Fox or Franz Joseph Glaciers, Westport, and Motueka - Nelson area. Haven't planned the North Island yet, but will sdpend a week there.

We prefer smaller, quieter, hostels with a non-party atmosphere, but will take the best available regardless.
