Good luck getting cheap airfare in mid-February, which is Caribbean high season. We went there this past Feb. from PHL, and I checked fares for a couple months, which hovered around $750-800, and didn't move. We ended up being able to get 4 AA freq. flyer seats to St. Thomas, in Nov., which I was very surprised about.
However, for the last couple of years, the software program Kiplinger's Tax Cut has included a US Air coupon in it which allowed people to buy tickets to the Caribbean for about $450. This was good even during the Feb. high season. I know that many people on the AOL ST. Thomas bulletin board were discussing this, and many were able to get the coupons and use them even during the Jan-March high season for tickets. Don't know if they will do the coupon again next year, and you probably won't be able to get it until the Tax Cut software goes on sale in Dec. or so, but if you don't have plans made by then, you may want to look into it. Good luck and have fun.

Here's a thread with a link to that coupon: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum51/HTML/000919.html
I had also looked into flying into San Juan (special fares once in a while, as well as charters, ATA, etc.), then taking AA or Cape Air on to STT.
