Just received this today:

We would like to correct an error in the e-mail we sent to you in early February regarding the "Double Your Frequent Flyer Mileage" promotion.

Our original e-mail stated that if you spent $10,000 on your Delta SkyMiles Credit Card(R) by May 31, 2001, you would be asked to send us an original September frequent flyer statement from any one airline postmarked by
September 15, 2001. The sentence should have read, "If you spend $10,000 on your Delta SkyMiles Credit Card by May 31, 2001, you will be asked to send us an original September 2000 frequent flyer statement from any one airline and return it in a reply envelope postmarked by September 15, 2001."

Remember, to receive your bonus SkyMiles (1):
· Spend $10,000 on your Delta SkyMiles Credit Card by May 31, 2001.
· Await notification from American Express that you've
spent $10,000.
· Send in a September 2000 frequent flyer statement from any one airline
postmarked by September 15, 2001.

American Express will then match those frequent flyer miles by adding up to 50,000 SkyMiles to your SkyMiles account.

We are sorry for any confusion this may have caused. If you have any questions, please call the American Express 24-hour Customer Service number on the back of your Card.

We're very happy to have you as a Delta SkyMiles Credit Cardmember and look forward to providing you with the high level of Customer Service that American Express is known for and you deserve.

(1) Delivery of miles is contingent upon meeting a minimum spending requirement of $10,000 by May 31, 2001. Only new Delta SkyMiles(R) Credit Cardmembers are eligible. New Cardmembers are individuals who have never held a Delta SkyMiles Credit Card account in their name.
Offer valid for applicants who applied online through the promotion from October 2 through October 20, 2000. Only airline mileage acquired directly through an airline mileage program is eligible. Other rewards
programs that offer mileage rewards are not eligible. American Express will notify qualified Cardmembers after May 31, 2001. Cardmembers must then return an original statement of mileage balance as of September 2000 from one airline to have those miles matched - up to 50,000 miles - and deposited into their Delta SkyMiles account. Business reply envelope containing an original statement of mileage balance must be postmarked by September 15, 2001. Account will be credited 6-8 weeks after receipt.
Available to U.S. residents only. Employees of American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc. and Delta Air Lines, Inc., their affiliates and subsidiaries are not eligible. All standard Delta SkyMiles program rules and conditions apply.

I was a good desert bird and complied with all the requirements.

Now I have to wait for my 50,000 miles to fly. WOW! My running legs are tired!

This thread is old (October 2000), but the double miles offer in one of the postings caught my attention.

Is that still available by getting this credit card?

Better, does AA have a similar offer?

The deadline has passed for us (the qualifiers) to have spent $10,000.00 between last Fall and May 31, 2001.

I received an e-mail on January 31, 2001 that notified me as one of the first 10,000 people to apply.

I have spent "WAY MORE" than $10k.

So now I am ready to cash in on my 50,000 bonus Delta SkyMiles.

The email states:

Congratulations, you were one of the first 10,000 people to apply for a Delta SkyMiles (R) Credit Card through the American Express (R) "You Could Double Your Frequent Flyer Mileage" promotion! You are now eligible to receive up tp 50,0000 bonus SkyMiles. To receive your bonus SkyMiles (1):

* Spend $10,000 on your Delta SkyMiles Credit Card by May 31, 2001.
* Await notification from American Express that you've spent $10,000.
*Send in a frequent flyer statement from any one airline postmarked by September 15, 2001.
*That's it! American Express will match those frequent flyer miles by adding up tp 50,000 SkyMiles to your SkyMiles account.
So folks, the question is when will we be notified that we spent the 10k?

We have until September 15, 2001 to send in a FF statement, but we have to be notified first.

My intention here is that once I collect the 50,000 SkyMiles, I will CANCEL the Delta AMEX as they simply have POOR customer service. What I am referring to is that not all the Double Miles merchants have not been posting as double. After following up with AMEX, they simply ignore my request to research.

If all my Double Miles merchants posted as double, I would keep the card, but since AMEX continues to have poor customer service, I will be history once I collect the 50k...

So please let us know if any of you have received official notification that you can collect your bonus 50,000 SkyMiles....

I went for this promo and I'm waiting for the 50k Bonus. Anyone get it credited yet?

It is interesting to read of the 50k bonus. I did not hear of it at the time, but considering I already had the DL amex I would have been ineligible. I though I would share a similar DL Amex customer service story....

When I signed up for the card, I was offered 10k miles and no annual fee for the first year. Just like "throwing the dog a bone" huh... well when I got the card, I found that I was charged the $85 annual fee. I called them several times trying to get the fee removed and they were asking me to mail the original promo offer paper because they said they did not know of that no fee offer. Funny that when I signed up, everyone knew about it. I did not want to send in the original offer because not only it was a pain to do it, but I did not waht to give up my evidence. Then, I had enough of them telling me that they would have to go through such a due process and they could not guarantee when it could be removed. They also said that I should just pay the fee to avoid a possible penalty for having an overdue balance. I told them that I have no reason to pay it because they should have never charged it in the first place- finally after some hardballing them they removed it. Sometimes I wonder if the game is that they count on a certain percentage of people not contesting these things....

As to using the card, I liked the double miles thing, I got double miles at about 20% of my purchases but have not calculated to see if they were accurate. Grocery stores in my area do not take Amex for the most part so I miss out on that deal. I am now coming up on one year and have to decide what to do with the card. I called them and had about the best customer service rep I have talked with from Amex and he even offered to give me 2500 miles if I get my wife a dupe card. He said that even if I cancel the card I should call back if the miles do not show up and tell them that I requested the dupe card before cancelling. Unfortunately, they offered no miles for renewing the card and paying the $85 fee. I will probably end up cancelling the card though because in practice, I may get 20% in double miles but I probably have more than 20% of my purchases at places that do not take Amex. They also offered me a free card that only gives 1/2 mile per $1 spent (no double miles) but I will probably not go with that card either.

With the Delta/AmexEx Card, you can increase your Bonus miles by charging $25,000.00 for the year with 10,000 Bonus miles from AmEx!

Well, I signed up about a month ago, promise of 6 months no fee plus 10000 miles. No bill yet, but checked online and they charged me the $85 fee. So they still have this problem.

Called on Tuesday, rep said they'd pass it on to the marketing dept for verification, and to not pay the $85 in the meantime.

I'll post updates as they occur. As of now I'm undecided on keeping past the free period, as I'm already paying for a Citi AA card. But this isn't helping their cause any.

Update - The fee referenced in the previous post has been reversed.

swag, that's good news.

I just accepted the same offer and am wondering how long it will actually take for the initial 10k bonus miles to post to my Delta account. (I plan to then roll them over to Diners Club and finally to British Airways during the DC/BA promo, which expires at the end of August). Have you received your bonus miles yet?

chucka...........

swag Jun 9, 2001 9:09 pm

Not yet, but I haven't gotten a bill yet either - I check the charges on the amex web site. I expect the bonus miles will post with the regular earned miles sometime shortly after the billing cycle - that's how Citi/AA does it.

rmccamy Jun 10, 2001 10:50 pm

Chix - I totally agree with you. Once I complete the final part of the 50K deal (sending them an FF statement from Sept 2000 and Sept 2001 - since their literature references BOTH years) and see the miles post, I will cancel this card.

Amex provides customer service that is entirely unacceptable for a fee card. I might hang on to my no-fee Callaway Amex for the simple reason that HHonors sometimes requires Amex to double- or triple-double-dip. But I will NOT wait on hold for five minutes for customer service AND pay an annual fee for the privilege to do so.
