Because I am Elite Executive Silver Dipped Pewter and I demand the respect I have earned!
O.K. - Maybe I'm just acting like many people that I see in the airport

Inflation runs rampant. :-)
Well we have all heard about MILEAGE inflation.
Well how about "EVANGELIST" inflation?
When I signed up on FT it took 250 posts to make it. Seems like it is now 10,000 posts. Or 40 times higher. Thank goodness the airlines have not been that tough on us.
And as you can see in the post above doc deservedly gets his own special level:

Well, when I think back to some of the awards we had -- INSIDE FLYER last month only showed us a few of the "golden oldies" -- I think the inflation level has been about the same. Not only did we get two First Class awards to anywhere for the same number of miles/points as one Business class award ticket today, we got a week in a suite at the Hilton or Westin, PLUS a week's rental of a Caddie or Lincoln!
So that explains why I have become an Evangelist. I was kinda wondering if it was a birthday present from Randy, or something.

Thank you ozstamps for digging this thread up from the "Archives". I remember when I joined FT, there were "junior members", "members" and "evangelists". Then these terms disappeared until last week. I don't recall that Randy Petersen has commented on this subject recently. Perhaps members who joined years ago when you could be an Evangelist with 250 posts, could be grandfathered.
Then in another 3 years or so, I too could attain that exalted rank.

You might get that status, but if you don't keep up your post rate, you'll lose that status and have to re-earn it the next year. And then it'll be more difficult to obtain because it's more important not just to have raw post count, since that's not an accurate measurement of the overall contribution, but to have meaningful posts. Therefore, rather than just counting the raw post count we'll be scoring each post with a rating and using the combination of those to determine the worth so that the status is a meaningful representation of their contribution to the establishment.
Now there will always be those who want to make sure they maintain status so that the pages load faster for them, so they'll probably be off in their own forum on a "posting run" and rating each of their posts positively. Once management learns about this they'll definately try to put a stop to it by harassing the best posters that just were trying to get a few more, and ignore taking away the function to create new forums and threads, still allowing people to do it anyway. Management won't realize that while a few of these aren't useful, all of them contribute and are good members of the program. Anyone willing to take the time to make the extra posts should be encouraged.
At the end of the day, does it really matter that much?
