jimb, I probably am too broad in the beam, but I liked the extra width on LH this trip. I forgot to give UA credit for the noise-cancelling earphones too.
I guess I was pretty impressed that even as they were advertising all the enhancements in LH business class I was still wondering why they'd bothered. The seats seemed bright, clean, firm and fresh, not tired or saggy.
I guess after UA business class to South America and LH US-Frankfurt, it pretty much is a draw, these days.

I've taken LH EWR>FRA twice, on a UA code share, in business. The equipment was Airbus 340. Since it was last year they may have changed the seating now.
The seats were hard. The legroom was minimal. The meal service did not even compare to UA. First, on UA they take your drink order and then serve it. ON LH, they use a cart. On UA, they ask if you want a refill. On LH you have to ask. On UA, they serve an appetizer course, then a salad, then the main dish and then desert or chees. On UA, you get a tray with everything on it except for the main dish. On UA you get greeted by name. On LH they don't know who you are. Etc., etc. The result is that I am again flying EWR>IAD>FRA, even though it costs me an extra 3 hours.

Lufthansa is better in service. United's stewardesses are old and ugly. When I was handed a menu in first class on Lufthansa FRA-YYZ(Toronto) last year, I was ASTINISHED. IT WAS TOO GOOD. I like the fact that they had my name enraved on a metal plate attached to the leather cmenu binder.
