Frequent fliers fuel a global currency
By Laura Bly, USA TODAY
The idea was straight out of Marketing 101: Reward repeat customers with something for nothing, and build loyalty in the process. Who knew such a timeworn gimmick would soar so high? Twenty years ago next week, the first frequent-flier program was born when American Airlines began rewarding its best customers with free trips and other goodies, based on the mileage they traveled. Other airlines quickly followed suit ....

Carol, remember!
Likewise, Carol Bruno of Rockville was in danger last December of losing her "silver" preferred status on US Airways, which she used to fly business class at economy-class prices. She was short 8,500 miles for the year and had no business trips scheduled.

Laura Bly was in Hawaii when she called me at home. I really tried to convince her that a face to face interview would have been better (she did not go for that)
. I was out when she first called. Laura spoke to my teenage son who told her that I have Kelloggs products all over the kitchen and I "make" him eat at certain restaurants for miles. I was afraid to read the article this morning for fear of what else they may have discussed!

Thanks, EPS. While I enjoyed reading the article(s), I learn more from the posters on this board than I did from them. What I learned from them is that I want Randy's job -- why didn't I think of it first?

The most interesting thing I learned in the above-posted articles was Randy testifying in the divorce cases.
The funniest was the description of Randy as Captain Kirk. Are we that much like trekkies? (Good thing that Laura Bly didn't think of Captain Bligh! Hmmm, was that mango or breadfruit on United last week?)
