open jaw
we need to go dfw-cph, get on ship, get off in new york, go lga-dfw. want to go on favorate carrier. they & web sites quote over $3000.00 each. carrier says the open open jaw must be the shortest leg of the trip. i've the cruise people to see what they can do, but am not getting good response. want to choose the over the water carrier to get upgrade. i know a solution to save a lot but would like to not go against policy. any thoughts?

Open jaw should be shorter than either of the legs . . . BUT
there are usually no computer system edits on this and the open jaw can be what the res agent says it is. I once had an open jaw as follows:
DCA-GNV
GNV-SEA
on USAir. The "open" part from DCA to SEA was certainly longer than the part from DCA to GNV.
