ClickRewards Bonus Miles

Now, if I am reading this correctly, ClickRewards will give me 10,000 bonus miles if I "earn" 5000 other Click Miles from shopping with at least two participating companies. Just purchased and used an e-ticket on Delta from Preview Travel, for my first 500 Click Miles.
Follow me here. Now, E-trade says that they will give me 2500 Click Miles if I open up an account with at least $1000 (which I can put into a money market fund) with them by December 30, 1998. Then, E-trade says if I make just one other qualified purchase from another ClickReward merchant by December 30, 1998, I will receive another 4500 Click Rewards.
Now, since the opening screen for the e-trade promotion says "Earn up to 7000 miles" by doing this, it would seem these are all "earned" miles.
By then reviewing the Click Miles bonus program (www.clickrewards.com/10aa), it would appear that I qualify for the "Earn 5000 Click Miles to get a total bonus of 10,000 Click Miles."
Not sure whether ClickRewards will agree with this computation, but it's worth a try. At the very least, I will get 7500 frequent flier miles for tying up $1000 of my money for at least a few weeks. Seems like a good return on investment to me.
Will let everyone know whether I get the full credits (but, of course, by then it will be too late for anyone else to do so, so I am letting everyone in on the strategy/speculation beforehand if there are any others who want to give it a go!)
Best case scenario, I get 17,500 Click Miles for just putting the $1000 into a money market fund at e-Trade (since I have already flown on the Delta Ticket through Preview Travel.
Oh, and by the way, the Delta Ticket, purchased before Dec. 6 and over $229, qualified me for a Delta $99 companion ticket--must be used by March 31st I think.

Drat -- you beat me to the posting! I too had stumbled across this scenario but was confused by the bonus offers. I emailed ClickRewards yesterday to see what there "official" read is on this offer. My reading is that I think you may have to make another purchase after opening the e*trade acct? Nonetheless it is a great bonus well worth a few weeks of letting $$ sit...

Apparently Schwab is also offering some type of miles -- couldn't find it on their site but will talk today with the guy who gave me the heads-up and report back on this thread.

These are the kinds of bonus promos I LOVE!

Schwab gives Delta miles for investments. American Express Investment rewards gives Continental miles, Membership rewards points or hotel points for investments. Details about the Amex promotion can be found under the American Express thread.

onefreeman - you are right that they might want another ClickMiles purchase after the opening of the account. Therefore, just to account for that possibility, I will purchase one CD from Music Boulevard, or one book from Barnes and Noble.com, after my e-trade account is opened but before December 30, so as to make sure that I cover that possibility. I'll buy something I would have purchased anyway, so that it isn't creating a greater cost for the miles.
Pgup is correct that you can get miles fo investing elsewhere, but you can't get this many miles for investing only $1000 anywhere else right now, even if I only end up getting 7500 out of the deal.
Will report the results in the future.

Okay, I have sent in the stuff to get the E*trade account opened. If all goes well, I will have earned 17,500 Click Miles (convertible 1 to 1 for frequent flyer miles) for:
1)purchasing a ticket on Preview Travel (that I was already needed, have used, and was charged to a client):
2) Put $1000 into an E*trade account--money market fund, haven't had to pay any trade commissions; and
3) Will purchase book or CD to make sure I have the additional qualifying purchase.
All in all, should be a great way to earn 17,500 FF miles. Will report again.

Djlawman, you are counting some items twice. E trade will get you 2500 miles, another qualified purchase will get you the miles for that (100 miles on Preview travel or 50 miles in Barnes&Noble for $50 purchase, excluding shipping and handling). Which nets a bonus of 4500 miles, so the total would be slightly over 7000 miles.

Djlawman -

Sorry to tell you this but that plan will not work. I spoke with someone at ClickRewards and here is the scoop.

Because Etrade was offering so many miles (2500) they were allowed to advertise the offer as "earn up to 7000 points". If you click in Etrade it says specifically that it is 2500 plus 4500 bonus point. I brought up the whole "earn" wording with them and they said that you must read the fine print. I told them that some people think it's 7000 plus the 10,000 bonus and they said absolutely not. It certainly was a good idea. And because of the earn wording I made the call.

By the way, if you sign up with Etrade that is considered a "purchase". Then you only need to make one more purchase not two as someone posted here.

Hope this helps anyone. I was hoping you were right so I had to check.

I am also presuming that the 12 days of Christmas miles count as a "purchase" so if someone hits that jackpot it would be worthwhile to make another purchase to get the Clickreward bonus miles.

now the REALLY fine print says:

You know, if we collected coins or stamps, the rules would be a lot easier :-)

NJDavid... you are so right with all these award programs with that run on sentence!
(Almost as Long as the lines at the UA first class Premier Exec and 1k check-in counters!)

DJLawman asked a great question which prompts
my questions (no answered yet by ClickRewards) Would I still get double click
points if I fall bellow 500 dollars in charges or 500 CLickpoints/miles/whatever they are calling them this month!

It's a nice program, I have desigated my Clicks to go to Marriott when I need to book
a free room. I have about 300 points but have no desire for another financial account
or spending hudnreds on travel or other stuff
on that site.

Also: ClickRewards does NOT list WebFlyer Merchandise as countable to this holiday bonus. I don't see they logo on the list of
sites, but it's probably eligable too! CATMAN

My post from last night apparently didn't make it for some reason.
I had written that I have opened the E*trade account, and now expect to get the points. I agree that there is some possibility that I will only get the 7500 miles, and if that is the case, I will write a very nice letter to Click Rewards seeking the higher amount. However, even for the smaller amount (about 1/3 of an airline ticket), it seems like a good way to invest $1000 for a month or so. Will report back.

Djlawman, if you can find some legal loophole let me know :-)

E*Trade says earn upto 7000 miles, but the fine print says that E*Trade will give 2500 miles, and if you make another purchase with a qualified retailer clickrewards will give you another 4500 miles. I agree with your assertion that it is a good deal.

Catman - here is the scoop. If you get 500 Click points from at least two merchants (any two merchants and WebFlyer merchandise counts) during the promotion period (Oct 15 to Dec 30), you get an additional 500 bonus points. But you do not get the bonus points if your earned points from the merchants falls below 500.

BTW there is another promotion targeted towards new members for 500 click points for their first accrual.

poetry, perhaps.
For some reason the server isn't setting its own limits.

Thankyou
