NYC - Tokyo $398

AA is running a web only special - Jet to Japan SAAle. Tickets must be purchased by midnight 3/28 (CT) and travel is thru 6/30/01.

You can find it at www.aa.com

They show an NYC-Tokyo and LGA-Tokyo fare for $398. Doesn't get much lower than that!

This is a good deal, but AA does not provide non stop flights on its own metal. Code share with Japan Airlines, I believe. DL offers non stop service between JFK and NRT on DL metal.

AA provides non-stop service on AA metal from a number of cities included in the sale such as DFW, ORD, SJC and SEA. From NYC, you can fly AA metal all the way with one stop. Also, there are more than enough choices available solely on AA metal if one prefers to skip JAL code shares.

Check the threads in the AA board! Sounds like you'll have to wait in line just like the horror stories I've heard with Europe.

Why the devil wouldn't you want to fly on JAL? I think almost any foreign-flag airline (except Aeroflot, and the ilk) beats American planes for service, FA looks, etc.

Also: this is about as cheap as NYC-NRT airfares go. There was a $199 airfare but that was available only on Y2K New Year's.

Welcome to Flyertalk, SDFF. Normally threads of this kind are posted in the appropriate airline forum and/or the Mileage Run forum. Just a gentle reminder. Thanks.

Thanks, Essxjay. I realized I had made that error after posting the original note.

I actually attempted to ticket these at an AA city ticket office and was told, 1) this was a web fare only and 2) that I could not use any type of upgrade certificate or miles with this web fare "promotion". So what is the story here?
