Loretta, Harold... what have we done to deserve this? Yahoo is still there...

Harold's is an attempt to get the board back to talking about travel, putting the seemingly endless flame threads far back in the pack. I have done it before also, and support his efforts. Those of you who engage in these flame-fests ("and you know who you are" Crystal, B. circa 1985) should recognize that this is one of the only outlets available to many of us to TRY to get these boards to just focus on travel, points and miles.

I'll offer a suggestion. Instead of going into each thread and moving it to the front making me needlessly open it to find out somebody who obviously has way too much time on their hands just put in a stupid message, why don't you just ignore the flame threads? If you don't like the content of a thread, then skip over it, but don't mark a ton of old stuff as new because you want it in front and inconvience everybody else to make you happy.

Four points:
(1) Most of the threads that Harold brought to the front weren't really frequent-flyer-buzz topics anyway. I've never been one to get too worked up over this - just thought I'd mention it.
(2) Bringing a bunch of old threads forward isn't going to alter the course of existing flame-wars. People who like the flame threads are going to find them anyway (and post to them, bringing them back to the front).
(3) Many of us who visit here frequently look for activity in our current "favorite" threads. Harold's antics make it much more difficult for us to sort spam from content.
(4) Finally, if you find that a thread is too 'noisy' for your liking, the best solution is to simply stop reading it. The vast majority of the threads here are NOT flame-wars, unlike at Yahoo.

I came in this morning to read the "new topics" and found the boards to be full of these "old" topics.
This is just another example of why we need moderation. One misguided individual, even with good intentions, can create a mess in a very short period of time.
Sigh,

EPS, I will reply for doc <smile>:
Was there a vote on the most controversial poster on FT?
Curiously, I must have somehow missed it!
Never even saw who was on the ballot!
If asked, however, I could provide several names for future consideration. Doubtlessly, they would include the two currently banned FT'ers, as well as several others who received rather stern warnings from Randy & Co.
On election day, however, I'd likely abstain!
I'd also be quite certain that everyone is on the same page regarding the precise meaning in context of the term "controversial"!

Did I elect someone to speak/post for me?
Nah!
"Some come only to share information & obtain feedback.
Some come with matches to start a fire.
Some come with gasoline to pour on the dying embers.
Some come with flameproof bunker gear!
While I personally come only to share information & obtain useful feedback, sadly, I also come with flameproof bunker gear!
Perhaps it's time to ask what you come to FT with?
Bring a solution rather than a problem!
----------
Personally, I do now as always:
Post what I think is proper/right for all!
Post what I think is helpful/useful for many!
Post what the host(s) agrees is both proper/right & helpful/useful on their/our site!
Despite occasional errors/mistakes, these guidelines work reasonably well for me, and I'd suggest we would all do well to use them and ask ourselves these very same questions prior to hitting the submit/enter button!"
