Switching FF programs after booking?

I have several CO flights in the next two weeks already booked, amounting to about 6,000 miles. I'm considering changing my FF allegiance to Delta for the coming year. The first of these flights is in 4 days, on the 6th.

My question is - if I join Delta SkyMiles online now, and switch my FF number on the already booked reservations, either online or at the gate, should I have any problems getting the miles for these upcoming flights credited to my new SkyMiles account instead of my OnePass?

Thanks!

I am pretty sure that you only have to join Delta Skymiles before you FLY not before you BOOK your travel. So join online now and get your Delta Skymiles number and put your Delta number in the continental res and you should be good to go. I would think the worst that could happen was that they could deny your Delta miles then you put in a mileage request for missing Continental miles.

Be careful though, the eqm's awarded will follow CO's rules, not Delta's rules.

"Be careful though, the eqm's awarded will follow CO's rules, not Delta's rules."

CO's rules say if you fly on a discounted fare on DL metal you only get 50% EQMs.

DL's rules say if you fly any fare on a partner's metal you get 100% MQMs.

So, if I am booked on CO metal, but give my DL SkyMiles number, wouldn't DL rules apply? And I would get 100% MQMs on DL for flying a partner?

Thanks for clearing this up!

Get your status match first........ :)

not that hard to do and will only take a week or so has been my experience.

I do not know about the status part, but if one is trying to earn miles on a flight and you are not yet a member of that FFP, you actually have til the moment the plane stops at the gate to join up. If you are a member, you could probably mail is stubs for at least 30+ days afterward. Maybe that helps.
