Use 40K AA or 50K US to get to EZE

I have 40K miles on AA and 57K on US. I'm taking a trip to Buenos Aires with some friends in April, and you can get there on AA with just 40K March - May.

I am wondering whether I should spend the extra 10K and go on USAirways, since they may be worthless soon, but then again, if they do go broke, it may mean the award ticket is useless...

Any advice?

(Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this)

If you're worried about it, use the US miles. If you're not, use the AA miles. If you're worried about using the US miles and then they're not around to honor the ticket in April and you're worried the 40K AA tickets won't be around then, use AA.

Everyone here is going to have a different perspective -- you have to pick what works for you.

I think that of all the likely BAD scenarios, the one most likely to come to fruition is the disappearance of the US airline. If you are concerned that will also mean the disappearance of the US mile program, then I would act on it.

If it were me, I would likely use the US miles to fly on a UA ticket, if that option is available.
