e-rewards AA 1000 miles..dont be fooled

i just got a targeted email from AA that said i could earn 1,000 bonus miles for signing up with e-rewards...Well lured by that of course I went through the long process of answering the long survey to sign up for e-rewards...then when I got to the end to choose my reward....

1000 AA miles when you book a ticket online between jan-mar 2005...NOT EXACTLY like getting 1,000 miles for signing up for e-rewards..

This is what part of the email said---which was very misleading:

"Membership is by invitation only, and you can earn AAdvantage bonus
miles just for participating.

MEMBERSHIP IS FREE, AND YOU GET A VALUABLE WELCOME GIFT!
When you join e-Rewards you will be able to select a Welcome Gift of
1,000 AAdvantage(R) Bonus Miles. Or you can choose $5 in e-Rewards as
your Welcome Gift, putting you well on your way to your first reward of up
to 2,500 AAdvantage bonus miles.....It's yours free as a special
thank-you for joining."

Welcome to the world of E-Rewards, THE MOST RESTRICTIVE survey site out there.

Each year I vow never to do another survey again, then they send one of those $30-50 surveys which hooks me back as it is an easy 3000 HHonors points or 6 movies from blockbuster (The only decent awards if you dont fly AA)

Thanks for the warning. I received this and was considering it.

Actually, I don't find it that bad compared to some of the really dreadful companies. If you focus on Blockbuster and Hilton, you can easily get your 6 rentals + many thousands of points annually. Just realize that the other awards are merely coupons that you can find for free elsewhere.

E-poll is MUCH worse. After spending far too much time on their polls, I think I cashed it in for a $5 gift certificate and quit.

But the absolute WORST ones of all are the pathetic "survey companies" (I can't even say it with a straight face) that don't even pay you anything - they put you in a "drawing" for a "cash award" that is paid out "every so often". Give me a f***ing break - are people really that stupid?

I've gotten $60 (checks) so far from greenfield online. I just only do telephone surveys or other longer surveys that are for $10-$20.

You get 1000 bonus miles for booking online at aa.com. Does anyone know for sure if this is in addition to the ususal bonus??

Having redeemed the AA reward on several occasions, I can confirm that it is in addition to the usual online booking bonus.

e-Rewards has coupons you can't get anywhere else

In regards to "Other than Hilton & Blockbuster" you can get the other e-Rewards coupon rewards for free elsewhere. Where exactly can you go to get an unrestricted $25 off coupon at FTD.com or a $25, $50, or $75 coupon at Abt Electronics? Just curious, because if you really know of other sites that publish these exact coupons for free I would love to know about them so that I can get them at will.

Also, the 2,500 mile AA award is not bad if your planing to fly AA in the future anyway.

Many of the awards at E-rewards are like this; I dumped them over a year ago and don't miss them at all. The Blockbuster 12 free rentals were actually 1 rental per month for 12 months...miss a month, too bad. It ended up just not being worth my time for the trouble.

I'm not convinced e-rewards is that bad of a deal. I just completed a $75 survey last week. It took me about an hour and I'll be able to get 3,500 AAdvantage miles. Yes, I'll have to make two reservations on AA.com, but I'm certainly going to be doing that anyway. While I won't be getting an F RTW through e-rewards anytime soon, every little bit certainly helps.

Ugh, that is such a typical e-Rewards thing. Oh well. The AA award is great if you fly a lot. Otherwise, it's pretty useless. They're obviously not getting all that much sponsor interest because so many of the rewards consist of discounts, rather than an actual exchange of e-Rewards for good or services. I like the Hilton reward because I spend little time on the e-mails and get a little bit more in return, for nothing.

I book most of my travel through my corporate travel agent. I guess there is no way to use the AA e-rewards with a travel agent. It has to be through aa.com?
