Question Avianca

I will probably be flying from Bogota to Cali and/or Bucaramanga in february 2005, most likely on Avianca. Does anyone know if they are partners with any major airline - I have accounts with AA,CO, UA, NW. Muchas gracias in advance!

Is Avianca REALLY partners with Delta?

According to Delta's website, while you can earn miles on Avianca and get them credited to your SkyMile account, Avianca flights do not generate MQMs towards elite status.

So I wouldn't call them a partner in the sense that Delta and Continental are partners.

My Spanish isn't the greatest and Avianca's website is inexplicably only in Spanish since they revamped their site (as confirmed with a phone call to Avianca), but according to their website, they aren't affilated with any other programs.

On the plus side it only takes 50,000 miles to hit the top tier with Avianca and you reach the first tier after only 17,999 miles.

They also partner with Flying Blue - but no status miles now, whereas with Flying Dutchman you did earn status miles with them.

Yeah, you can earn and redeem miles, but as far as I know, if you fly Avianca, you can't earn status miles with ANY other airline. I'd love to earn EQMs with Continental by flying Avianca, but I only earn miles.

For whatever reason, AVianca is out there all by themselves.

I'm not sure any of the major world airlines or three global airline alliances want to get too close and cuddly with the financially up and down national carrier of the most dangerous and violent country in South America.
