DEEP VEIN DANGER KNOWN FOR 30 YEARS!

Don't know where to properly post this.

Report Suggests Airlines Have Known About Thrombosis Danger For Thirty Years!!

""Under the headline "Long-haul Hell" the London-based newspaper The Observer today alleged that the scale and seriousness of deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) or 'economy-class syndrome' has been known to airlines for at least 30 years.

The newspaper alleged that attempts to engage in serious research have been blocked by what it described as "a scandalous refusal to disclose passenger lists and an insistence that the incidence of DVT in long-haul passengers is no higher than in the population as a whole."

"What is now required is proper scientific evidence from a large body of long-haul passengers. And the research needs to be properly controlled; the side-effects of DVT can take up to a fortnight to manifest themselves," the newspapr said in an editorial.

"Sadly, the dilatory response of airlines to a succession of deaths already gives serious grounds for concern. That no proactive action was taken earlier - with some airlines even considering limiting seat spaces further - demonstrates that the pursuit of profit and shareholder value now ranks far too highly as a corporate objective, and health and safety too low," the editorial continued.""

Original article is in The London Observer.

This is scary. Shades of the Ford/Bridgestone efforts at coverup.

Looks like a lawyers dream come true.

Thirty years of airlines flying passengers is a huge class action lawsuit.

My grandfather has been talking about this for the last fifty+ years. Just now the media is picking up on it. This is nothing new. And isn't restricted to economy class or even air travel. "economy class syndrom" can happen in First Class (albiet less likely since you are more likely to move around) or when you sit in your lounger for twelve hours.
