Loan of miles

I want to loan a good friend 40,000 DL skymiles. Can it be done?

He is short 40,000 miles and is trying to buy 2 business class seats. I would like to loan him the 40,000. I have lots of Skymiles and also AMEX MR points. Can I direct miles to him via AMEX or Delta or otherwise?

per terms & conditions of all mileage/rewards cards/flight programs, there is no sharing/loaning/selling/gifiting etc.

I know on delta one person can buy & gift skymiles, but you can not gift skymiles from the bank that you have already.

believe me, I wish there was a way.

You could get an award seat in his name, but the miles would have to come from your account.

I believe that you can only do this over the phone. The online tool to book award seats automatically defaults to the skymiles member's name.

I am a member of AMEX MR points also--my assumption is that when you link a Skymiles account to your MR account, the names need to match. I have not read that anywhere nor have I tried to link a Skymiles account to my MR account that wasn't mine.

That is true but it would be like loaning 90,000 miles and this would take my friend forever to repay.

I think you can link to anyone who has a card on your account. For example, my wife has a AMEX card on my account and minutes from her charges are added to my total. I can use the miles to top off her account.
