I see a lot of people talking about metal in reference to their status on an airline/airline alliance. What exactly does this mean? Thanks.

Many arilines code share so you could be flying on one airline's aircraft but getting frequent flyer miles on a different airline.
For example, you can book a flight on United Airlines web site and get United Airlines FF credit from Boston to Philadelphia but if you do thisl, you will be actually flying on a US Airways plane.

"Metal" in context refers to the actual operating airline -- the name painted on the side of the plane. When you see someone say "I've got a CO flight number, but VS metal" -- that means they're flying on a Virgin Atlantic aircraft that also bears a CO flight number as part of a codeshare deal.

Hi mshafrir and welcome to FlyerTalk.
The MilesBuzz forum is for posts related to the latest frequent flyer program buzz. Dont be afraid to take a look around and get familiar with the site. A good place to start would be by clicking on "Quick Links" at the top and then "Glossary" to get an idea of some of the terms we use around here.
Because this really doesn't have anything to do with miles or points, and your question has been answered, I'm going to close this here.
