You can probably blow them away on Priceline (ugh) if you don't care about miles and just want to get from XXX to YYY for as little as possible. Who knows, Priceline might even sell you a CyberFares ticket for less than NWA if you wait long enough to submit your bid, as doubtless the interest in mile-less CyberSavers will decline sharply.

BTW, will history repeat itself?

BA stopped giving miles on cheap tikets a few years ago and look where they are now: from "the world's favorite airline" to "I scorned away my economy customer and can't make a profit".

(And I'm not saying that because the Executive Club is busy ignoring me...)

I have a very good friend of mine here in Memphis who works for NW and she tells me that they are laughing at some of the threats some have made. They are catering the business market first (along with the corporate partners.) The leisure travelers and those who are looking to cherry pick the lowest fares will have to understand that the miles will not be offered. In other words, they cannot afford to give 11,000 miles for european trip (then double the miles for status bonus - bringing almost the total needed for a domestic roundtrip.)

I have also shared my thoughts with NW Customer Service on this issue. I should hope this does not become precendent-setting for other airlines to follow.

So regardless of the amount you may or may not fly on NWA, please let 'em know what you think of them not awarding elite mileage (or 'airline mileage') for their CyberSavers nor e-savers fares.

I sent my comment into Northwest via the Website. Just from the Web design they seem mired in bureaucracy (be sure to send to the right department, fill out all the required fields, etc.). Maybe they think this is still the 70s.

They probably think the CyberSavers are such great deals that we're just being greedy for expecting to earn miles, too. I reminded 'em that without miles, they're on roughly the same competitive footing as Priceline. Maybe worse, since with Priceline you can pick your dates.

Sent in my comments and pointed out that desireability of cyberfares will be reduced when no credit is given. Point of cyber fares is for people to do spur of the moment unneeded trips. Getting miles clinches it. Now it will take a much cheaper fare to convince me to take "unneeded" spur of the moment cyberfares.
