Air Canada does.

Used to get HHonors Gold but I don't think this still exists.

Now there is
h Crowne Plaza Passport to Privilege
h Delta Hotels Privilege Platinum
h Fairmont Hotels-special privileges
h Marriott Upgrade to Concierge-Canada

I've recieved comp hotel elite status in the past and have often wondered if it's because of my United 1K status. But I can't say for sure.

I can say that, by mention of this specifically in the accompaning letter, that I have received comp status with Hertz and Avis because of my airline status.

Hyatt has an active comp program. I myself (CO Platinum) and many UA 1K's have received Diamond Status in the Hyatt program totally unsolicited. I have no idea how they decide who should get the offer.

Starwood Preferred Guest has a program with most of the frequent traveler programs that if you automatically roll-over your starpoints, they will comp Gold Status.

I actually dont know the specifics of it. Apparently, United and a few other carriers sent something out to their customers stating that if they enroll in the program, and automatically roll their miles over into the airline program, Starwood comps them to gold. Gold gives you a 4pm late check out, a 50% bonus on points (3 points per dollar instead of 2) and an upgrade to a "specialty room" basically a better view or location. Personally, keeping the points in SPG will be much better for you. I dont know if the 20,000 mile bonus applies.

Besides the mailing, I dont know how the program gets started. Try calling SPG to see if they can do it, or call your FF program.

Starwood is pretty easy in terms of comping to gold.

I got a Gold comp from Starwood in exactly the manner StacyCat describes. They have a deal with United (and others?) whereby you can have your Starwood points automatically converted to Mileage Plus miles at a 1:1 ratio. I think it's called "Airline Direct Deposit" or something like that. I received a postcard from Starwood about it. Sign up for it and you get Gold. I ended my participation in this program when I (1) realized that keeping the Starpoints is a better value and (2) applied for the Starwood Amex which will comp me to Gold anyway.

I've heard that AA top tiers get comped for Six Continents (which is otherwise a $100 initial fee). As a UA 1K, I was comped HHonors Gold, and, more recently, Hyatt Diamond (they seem to have gone after top tier flyers who weren't in their program or perhaps didn't stay with them). If you don't want to wait and hope for an invite, why not approach the chain(s) of your choice?

Canadian Plus Executive Platinum members get Starwood Gold and Gold members get Corporate Preferred membership (don't know what this means..). Of course CPlus will no longer exist in 17 days!
