RIP: Charter One gift cards!

Now available only to CO account holders and no longer available via internet. You must open an account and buy them in person at a CO branch.

It was good while it lasted!

Although it should be noted that one only needs a $50 balance to have an account open with them. So if you have a local branch it is still pretty easy to buy the cards.

I wish I would never found out about this "deal." In March I ordered gift cards for $2500. They never arrived and many e-mails inquiring about them were never answered. CO can't be reached by phone unless one has an account with them. Is there anyone out there who has a suggestion about how to contact CO by mail?

Others have reported that GCs purchased at CO branches show up on your credit card bill as cash advances, a most undesireable outcome.

Don't mess around with calls and e-mails. IMMEDIATELY dispute the credit card charges with your credit card company. There is generally a 6 month time limit for filing a dispute and it looks like your time is running out. Phone your credit card company at once and get the wheels in motion. The dispute you file will require CO to respond to the credit card company within a prescribed time.

Question

Shoud this be a new thread or merged into the CO GS thread?

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9573

Otherwise there would have been too many CO discussion scattered everywhere.

I do agree, it was a good run while it lasted.

I searched but could not find anyones experiences with purchasing a CO GC at a branch. Having a $50 account open isn't a big deal for those who have a branch nearby.

Anyone tried to buy CO GC's in branch w/ CC had it show up as a cash advance?

I got through to Charter One today but not choosing any options and just waiting for a rep. They actually told me to dispute the charges with my credit card company. I called up citibank right away and they took care of it.

This really pissed me off, I can't believe that they wont refund our purchases if they don't provide us the cards.

What do you base your comment on? All gift cards purchased via the internet on CO were treated as a purchase. The exception being American Express.

Looks like CharterOne is having some crises.

http://www.cantonrep.com/index.php?C...&ID=180098&r=7

For those who don't want to register (or use bugmenot.com to get a sign-in name), they're cutting 900 positions as part of the takeover by Citizens Financial.

As I recall, it is 60 days since you receive the bill in dispute.

Best wishes.
