You can donate miles to charities.
You can transfer United miles to Diner Club rewards miles (in multiple of 10K miles).
You can combine American and USAirways miles for a reward - the miles are effectively transferred from one airline to the other.

miler, so far I have the following USA program information.
[*]United -- 5,000 miles = 10,000 Hilton points.
(transfer in increments of 5,000 UA miles)
[*]American -- 5,000 miles = 5,000 Hilton points
(5,000 AA miles minimum transfer)
I will return to this post and edit as I gather additional information.

Here is the page on the United web site for their Charity Miles program: http://www.ual.com/site/primary/0,10017,1363,00.html
TWA conversion is 10,000 Hilton points for 5,000 TWA miles. http://www.hilton.com/hhonors/rewards/exchange_1.html

The credit card 'transfer-programs' differ a lot from country to country.
It wouldn't be possible to transfer any miles from any airline into Diners points in Switzerland (having a Diners issued by Citybank Switzerland).

Rudi makes a good point. For that matter some airlines (notably British Airways) rules also vary from country to country. I once had a long dialog with a guy about the BA program, finally we realised that he was talking about the BA Canada program, and I was talking about the BA US program.
