Cool Earn Miles Buying Gift Certificates + 5% Discount Code

The website, www.giveanything.com, has to be one of the best sites for buying gift certificates as they are good for so many merchants. If done correctly, you could churn lots of miles.

You could use either you credit card or gift card to buy gift certificates + 5% discount.

Here is the promotional code MH3377 to use at checkout, kind of looks like a Malaysia Airlines codeshare flight #.

Be aware of critical restriction

From GiveAnything.com's Terms of Sale and Conditions of Use:

GiveAnything.com Gift Certificates may not be sent to, or redeemed by the same individual who purchased the gift certificate. Any gift certificate sent to or redeemed by the same individual making the purchase will be voided and the corresponding credit card charge will be refunded.

Darn, I guess that means we will have to be creative and exchange with family members and friends for each other. I guess there is no such thing as a free lunch. Oh wait, you can buy the gift certificates and then use them at restaurant.com ; which sells $25 valued restaurant certificates for $10 each. Thus, I can buy $55 worth of restaurant.com certificates worth over $125. Still a winner, especially if used later at an iDine restaurant?!?

Actually, you would need to use a registered credit card @ an iDine restaurant to receive iDine perks (miles or $)--however, getting a 56% discount instead (re: $70 savings on value-of-$125 certificates), or otw in conjunction w/ (& assuming represents majority of) amount not purchased w/ an iDine-registered-credit-card, would nearly always have the greater value (when compared to iDine perks) -- it would seem to require an exceptional iDine-related promo to even come close...

Uh no, iDine is based on what is charged to your registered cc. Since the certificate will be used to reduce your bill, only the net is charged to your cc and miles are based on the amount charged to your cc. @:-)

And you are not supposed to be able to combine an iDine award with any other discount. Over on the iDine forum they are saying that sometimes this gets enforced.

How would iDine know?

Is this an iDine policy or restaurant policy or both? I was given miles for a transaction in which I used a certificate? How would iDine know? I can see a restaurant making the call but not iDine.
