Upgrade on UA from DL?
Sorry to bother you with more questions, but as a young flyer, I am obsessed with Business and First Class. ESPECIALLY United's First Suite.
My family rarely flies internationally, therefore my return trip from LAX, flight 2, a 747-400 is my only real chance to see First Suite.
I am booked in Business Class, for free, using my Delta SkyMiles. Delta is not authorized to book United First Class on a 3-class aircraft, which a 747-400 is, however they cahrge 40,000 miles for Business Class AND First Class (on a 2-class aircraft). Now, here's the question...
Should I argue with UA at the gate (or on the phone) and say that I paid 40,000 miles and on my return flight I am asking for First Class, as the statement promises? (Argue "at least give me the flight home in First!")? Do you think it will be sucsessful? Whereshould I do it, the phone or the gate?
Thank-you!

Sorry UALover7, but I think you might be out of luck. For purposes of upgrade or totally free awards on United, a First seat on a 2-class plane is only equal to a Business Class seat on a 3-class plane.
So I don't think you'll get far with an argument with a United Gate Agent. If Delta told you that you would be in First, you might take that up with them.
But, it never hurts to ask...nicely.
