I planned travel to LHR to meet my firend during thanks giving. and will return on 26 (Sun) or 27 (Mon). Will the Sun Return be oversold easily and I may be bumped?
(well, I don't mind bump, if they can get me back to US on Mon and upgrade me but...)

Your best bet might be on the flight within the US. Are you flying London-Chicago-Detroit? The Chicago-Detroit flight will be crazy, especially Sunday evening. I don't know about the London-Chicago flight. I say that knowling a lot of people that fly AA to U of M from CA and TX via O'hare.

So what do you think of the new McDonalds in Pierpont?? Much better than Little Caesars IMO.

Did you know the Commuter Express from DTW now stops at Pierpont, too? No more dragging luggage across the Diag to the Union.

I'm not one to readily share bumping advice for Thanksgiving (I've been successful many times), but I don't think a flight from Europe to the US would be significantly oversold on Nov. 26. Want to maximize your chances? Go to MIA that same day and watch how many flights to the New York, Boston & Philadelphia areas are oversold. Now that's a bump!

VJ: Gald to hear from you again! I share the same feeling with you concerning the Mc's (no more bad pizzas!). The news about comumter is great, I normally take a cab back to UM if I fly back from HKG since I will use my max luggage quota. But for upcoming trips this will really save me a lot!

I agree with Glenn, I wouldnt expect a bumb on the return flight.

most evening flights to LHR last year from JFK on AA were ridiculously oversold the sunday after thanksgiving, with bumping opportunities on every flight.

and if you check the pax load for this year's flights for 26 november - they're pretty heavily booked up and will likely produce a repeat performance.

your best opportunity for an oversold situation from LHR to the USA would be the tuesday or wednesday before thanksgiving.

That means Americans working in UK will go back to their US home for thanksgiving but not travelling to UK during for sightseeing ...

Somehow that make sense except I am a single in the US (family in HKG)

I've noticed that the Europe fares are usually not blacked out over Thanksgiving, so you can buy a ~$300 ticket to London for the Wed. before and Sun. after Thanksgiving-- dates when cheaper domestic fares aren't offered. This alone may give you an excuse to fly over to Europe-- just tack on as many domestic flights as you can. (DTW-ORD-JFK-LHR? DTW-ORD-JFK-BOS-LHR??)

Also, if you have a Citibank card, call for the AA discount certificates. (You have to call and request them-- they aren't sent automatically anymore.) There's an AA coupon for $100 off of a $250-$400 Europe ticket-- not bad at all!! I wish CO offered a discount like that under AmEx.

Viajero, can you please share what department or telephone # you call for these AA coupons? Are these coupons given only to new cardholders or can a current cardholder just call and request the discount coupon?

Christmas would be a different scenario because it is a "worldwide" holiday. Blackout dates and oversales abound during that period.

The AA discounts are only offered for Student cardmenbers... it's listed on the applications that are posted around campuses. Once you apply with a special application, your account is flagged and you can request the certificates twice a year. If you didn't have the AA promotion on your card when yuou first applied (or if you aren't a student), then you can't get the coupons.

FYI, the coupons are the Europe $$ off coupon, plus 2 coupons for travel within the lower 48 US based on distance ($139 for up to 1000 miles RT, $169 for up to 2000 miles RT...), and 1 coupon for the same mileage-based fares for you _and_ a companion.

HK-UMICH can probably find the special applications I'm talking about, considering we take classes in the same building at the same school. Go Blue!!

P.S. Price to LHR via AA is real high, 400+tax summing nearly 490!!

In my dealings with NW, Co, and DL, I've never had trouble getting miles when I use a $$$ off coupon with a published fare. I seriously doubt you will have trouble with AA.

The discount is $150 on tickets from $400 to like $800-- maybe that makes the price a little better.

The American Airlines student certificates are a great deal -- I use them regularly. With the domestic certificate, you can fly RT anywhere within the continental United States for $299. (including taxes) I still earn all base miles and bonus miles (including my PLT bonus) when I use these certificates. Also, you can use a voucher to pay for the ticket
