Consecutive AMEX offers

I just cancelled my Delta Amex after 10 months (12.5K sign up bonus, first year no annual fee). I just got the Hilton AMEX offer in the mail - 7,500 points, no annual fee). Will they let me take this, cancel in x months, then go to the next program for their sign on bonus. I will never have 2 cards active at the same time.

The no annual fee makes this a no brainer if they will let me hop from program to program.

I believe you would not have a problem keeping both accounts active: Delta Optima and Hilton Optima. You are correct, Hilton card is a better deal than Delta's, since there is no annual fee for the Hilton card. I had both cards active at the same time last year, and received sign up bonuses for both. As a side note, when I decided not to renew Delta's card because of the annual fee, the AMEX rep told me that Delta also has a "free" card, and all I need to do is to ask for it. I turned it down anyway and just have one card right now, which is Hilton.

Make really sure that your DL Amex is cancelled. Earlier this year, my husband cancelled his to get a Starwood Amex instead (the best, in my opinion), and three months later got hit with the renewal annual fee for the DL card. It eventually was cancelled, but it took extra hassle.

FWIW, I had gotten a Hilton Optima card but had never used it, and essentially lost in one of my drawers. When COSTCO no longer honored Discover, I couldn't find the Optima card and applied for a COSTCO/AMEX card. A few weeks later, I got a letter which said that AMEX could not extend my credit any further and rejected my application. When I called and explained the situation, AMEX said they would send me a new Hilton American Express - with a credit limit of over $30K!

I just got a flyer in my statement saying that they are upgrading my card to Platinum - not bad for a free card.

Now I can get into the President's, Admiral, etc. clubs when I fly.

DoggyDaddy,
Do you get access to Presidents and Admirals clubs just for having a platinum Amex or is it a special offer you received from Hilton?
I have a platinum Delta card and don't believe I have that benefit.
Thanks

Steph,

Yes, I checked with a website, and I can use the President's Club - I have to show my Continental ticket, and of course the Platinum card.

Haven't gotten the card yet, but CO just sent me an invitation to join the President's club at a discount, and sent me a free pass. Guess what I am going to do?

Good luck with yours.

DD

Stephlac,

Just checked again at the American Express site, and the offer only applies to CO, NW, and TWA - sorry.

Yes, one can have both the Hilton AMEX Optima and the Delta Gold AMEX Optima. I got the Hilton first (as you say, no fee) and then later the Delta when they offered the 20K SkyMiles. However, I think I read somewhere that they split the maximum charge amount between the two Optima cards. (I also still have my regular AMEX Gold with no specific limit.)

FYI, you need AmEx Platinum card with $240(?) annual fee not Hilton nor Costco AmEx Platinum to get in to President Club.

I forgot who but he was denied to admission with his Costco Platinum card before; you can search AmEx forum.
