Convert LatinPass Miles to Marriott!

I received the latest LatinPass newsletter today and I can't believe my eyes. It says that as of 8/1/00 you can convert LP miles to Marriott points on a 1 for 2 basis (5000 LP = 10,000 Marriott. There is no mention of any restrictions on the transfer of bonus miles.

There is also a big article on the MM promo with lots of Flyertalk quotes. I'll post more details later, but I wanted to get his news out.

It will be great to do that transfer.

But me and 5 of my friends are still waiting for our flights and bonus to be credited.

A little math and you can see how great this is, if they allow conversion of the bonus miles from the MM promo. 1,000,000 LP ---> 2,000,000 MR ---> 660,000 miles on Air Canada, American Airlines, British Airways5, Continental Airlines, Delta, Northwest Airlines, TWA, United, or US Airways (with 20,000 points to spare). That means just about any award you can imagine may be within reach for the LP millionaires.

Everyone keeps saying "If that's true" -- I don't know if they will restrict the conversion of bonus miles, but I assure you that the offer is real! I am staring at it right now and this is not an April Fool's joke.

I haven't seen it on the LP site either. I could scan it and email it to you, drtravels, but the attachment might be a little large.

Fingers crossed .. what an amazing deal if Marriott do not "cap" it. Might be like many of these things .. the first bunch to do it gets it okayed and then the "rules change".

Reading FT gives a lot of you advance info this is a possibility, and a big "head start" over those with the LP miles who YET do not know about this.

It is like the UA "Triple Miles" for Elites that we all read about here close on a month back. Myself and doubltlesss many others hanve schuduled a lot of extra flying to maximise that great deal. Yet if you are a MP member there has been ZIP in your mail to tell you the promo even exists, and applies only until year end flying on ALL flights.

Wonder what Randy did with his LP miles -- anyone know?

For those of you expecting to launder 1,000,000 LP miles in one shot remember two very important things:

1. The maximum number of Marriott points that can be converted at any one time is 30,000 points, which converts to 10,000 miles.

2. From the Marriott Rewards terms and conditions:
A member may order a maximum of two mileage rewards in any calendar year.
In other words, at a limit of 60,000 points per year, it will take you 33+ years to launder your 2,000,000 points back to miles.

Even given that restriction, you've still got options such as taking flight awards, or even doing crazy things like using them to stay at Marriotts

Can any other miles beside LatinPass be converted to Marriott Rewards points?
