Do you still want FF miles?

I always want to ask this quesition. If you are rich enough to have a private jet, would you still want to earn miles on major airlines? I mean isn't the sole reason for us to earn miles is for upgrades and elite status and free travel?

I am trying to remember where I read this. It was in The Journal, USA Today or in one of the business publications within the last month or two.

There was a rich business lady who inherited her business and always flies coach and proudly claims that she flies biz/first only on upgrades. She could have bought many of the airlines she flew on. I don't think it was in the travel section - I think it was mentioned in a profile of her.

A lot of multi-millionaires I know do fly coach, in the middle row on busy flights and collect miles and do not complain. They do fly private or company jets at other times as needed or for fun. It is not all about money - it is a game and a fun one at that!

I am guessing that the millionairess is quite petite.

I know that if I could afford it I would fly 1st 100% of the time-there is no inherent virtue in flying coach! That doesen't mean that I wouldn't use every means at my disposal to upgrade as cheaply as possible but I would be up-front all the time vs. about 85% currently (maybe a little more recently).
