Hello FlyerTalk!

Hi everyone! I’m a new FlyerTalk member coming from HotTalk over at Trip.com where I have been an active member for over 8 months. Now I’m looking outside of the box and joining other HT’ers here at FlyerTalk. No, I am not leaving HotTalk.

I hope everyone here is as friendly and as knoloagable about travel as they are over at HT.

It looks like this board is much different and I was wondering if anyone could give me the low down on everything about FlyerTalk? Any help and or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Now, let me fill you in a little about myself. I am not a well-traveled person; however, I do take frequent trips. I live in the Philadelphia with friends and colleagues. I am a web and webmaster and fairly good with computers. With the help of those at HotTalk I have helped to create an aviation picture site, named Internet Aviation Picture DataBase (IAPDB) for short. So if that ever comes up in a reply you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Thanks for reading my post and I hope to get to know you all here!

Greetings, onic. Welcome to Flyertalk.

Having never been to HotTalk, I can't offer a direct comparison. But I will say that I would be shocked if you can't find some very useful stuff here.

Welcome!

To sum up FT very rapidly:

Lotsa information and a quick answer to almost ANY travel related query. Many have been here a long time and some a short time...some are VERY vocal and others are simple and efficient in replying!

Hope you enjoy your time here and make many friends like I and others have!

Dorian

Welcome, onic: I enjoy your reports and observations on HT and hope you will enjoy ours here. You'll find this place marginally more (uh) mature than the other place; it can be quite informative, but you have to be at least awake before you assimilate the data here (some is good, some is crummy; you'll make your own conclusions pretty quickly, and they may not be the same as mine): in general FT is more a mile-hunter place than a plane enthusiast place, but there is room for both types at both boards, I think.

Welcome! Keep your eyes open, as some of us Philly guys may be getting together again for cheesesteaks...

About FT, as others have said, there's plent of info here, often the best way is to do a search to look for anything specific you want to know, it's not to be impersonable, but the quality and amount if info there is usually outstanding if the topic came up previsouly.

Too overwhelming. Better to use the search mechanism, as unweildy as it is....

Welcome onic!

I always check out the AA board, along with Community/Buzz/etc. (With the time dif, there are very few posters on at the same time I am, so sometimes I'll run through the "Active Topics" to see if I missed anything.)

Anyway, start on the board you're most interested in, and then play around with "branching out."
