Hotel Nightmare

I am trying to arrange a hotle room in Amsterdam for 7 September for 2 nights. Expedia and Travelocity show nothing available. Is it possible that an entire city is sold out? Where else should I go to look? I am only SPG Gold so no confirmed booking there...

Thanks...

Try http://www.travelnow.com/hotels/

I got this info back:

AMSTERDAM

1. Le Meridien Apollo
(330.00-1,028.00)

2. Swissotel

Good luck!
Amsterdam
(350.00-650.00)

If there's availability at the Meridien and the Swissotel you may want to book through an American Express Travel Agency. Through their "Select Rate Program" they offer rates of NLG 320 at the Swissotel and NLG 333/374 (single/double) for a Standard room and 357/403 for a superior room at the Meridien. The Swissotel also includes continental breakfast. You may need to encourage the travel agency to check the AMEX Select Rate Program Rate - sometimes they need to be reminded that they have negotiated corporate rates!

You might call a travel agent and let them do the work?

I read Beantown's info regarding American Express, went to this website
http://travel.americanexpress.com/tr...nal/resources/

and booked 2 hotels (beginning & end of my trip) in AMS. More vacancies & better prices than any other site. Got confirmation in seconds by e-mail. Hotel information are thin, looked them parallel up at http://www.visitamsterdam.nl/

ranles:
BTW, when you live in a sleepy town like I, you better don't call a (local) travel agency. For me, the www is a great help.

USAFAN - glad I could be of help. Nice that the web site gives you the negotiated rates - my experience has been that the AMEX agencies themselves only do it about 50% of the time, unless you remind them!
